How does this lens compare to the 24-85 except for the added reach?

I don't have the 24-85 so I really can't comment. But there is the reach and the 24-120 is a constant f4. Is the 25-85 a constant aperture too?

24-85 is a 3.5-4.5 lens.
I have this lens, came with my D600 as a kit lens during the rebate... and its a great lens. Just wanted to know if it would be worth upgrading to it.
I have aspirations of getting a 70-200 VRII to complement along with a TC2 or 80-400 VR

If you have aspirations for the 70-200, I don't think it would be wise for you to get the 24-120.
