18-140 VR - is it as good as the older 18-135 NON-VR?
Even thought the 18-135 non-VR was the kit lens for my old D-80, I love the lens. Very sharp, light, and the perfect range. I leave all my other lenses at home on vacation and just take this one.
But I miss not having the VR. If I purchase the the 18-140 VR, will I be as happy with the quality?
Thanks,
Jeff

I don't like to answer a question with a question but... Have you considered the 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VRII?

Previous research advised me that the 18-200 is softer and just not as good a lens as my current 18-135, so although I like the reach, I will not purchase that one
Thanks for the suggestion.

Maybe I just shot with outstanding copy then because my experience with it was quite good. Far and away sharper than the 18-140mm I own for my D7100 and I like the 18-140mm a LOT.

Different question: anybody NOT like the 18-140 VR? Any reason NOT to purchase it?

Also - Going to Hong Kong in a couple weeks Can I hope for a bargain there? Not exactly Japan but....

I shoot with 18-140 quite often and I have mixed feelings about it. It is not very-very sharp, it's just OK sharp, chroma and geometry aberrations are also all there. Nothing killing, but I need to correct those for each and every frame I take.
Mine came bundled with d5200 and I paid 500 euro for the whole bundle, so I'm not complaining, but I'd never purchase this lens for the retail price they ask.
It's an average lens, maybe upper average, but far from stellar. _DSC7115.jpg_DSC1546.jpg
