Oh, I know it can be done. I just don't want to have to do it, and I'm a little miffed that the standard foot doesn't balance the lens.

I find it odd that they sell an additional foot for an additional $238. It's close to an admission that the original doesn't work all that well and that a redesign was appropriate. If that was (and is) the case then why not just toss the original and include the redesign in the purchase price.

Oh. Wait a minute. I get it ...

My lens is supposed to arrive this afternoon. I've already spent some time at the gym in preparation. :)

Update: The lens arrived half an hour or so ago, and I was able to get it safely unpacked, examined, and the accompanying UV filter properly installed. It attaches to the camera body (D7200) just fine, and the images that I took on a cloudy/rainy day looked fine. One thing is certain: I'll have to get to the gym more often. The thing weighs a proverbial ton and then some. Wow.

Oh, I can sympathise with you @MaxBlake. I ordered the Tamron 150-600 and when it arrived I almost had to get a trailer to bring it home. Looks like there'll be a new tripod comin' up. *STRONG!!!

I hear you both... I use my monopod with my Nikon 200-500 now or a fence post... window sill... car hood... Wall... I have a decent way to carry it with the Peak Design strap and the Tripod Leg, but it gets heavy quick.

You guys are funny. @brads, you can strap a Nikon 24-70mm f2.8 to your Tamron and still come up short on the weight of the Sport lens. @Danno, you're a little closer, you only need to use a second body. ;)

FYI, I stuck the lens with my gripped D7100 on a postal scale - 9lbs 6.6oz. I've sold bass guitars only because they were heavier than that on my shoulder. LOL

One thing is certain: A quality tripod or monopod is now an essential part of my camera requirements. Those plastic-legged, spindly types aren't gonna cut it. Looks like I'll have to do some additional shopping.

@MaxBlake, if you haven't done so yet, hook your lens up to the dock and upgrade your firmware. I've seen an improvement in both the AF speed and the Optical Stabilization. I've set my C1 and C2 profiles so that I can get all 3 types of OS by flipping the switch. The language around the full time Manual Focus setting is a little weird so I didn't mess with that setting. I'm going to play with the various settings in Auto Focus as well.

You are right Hippie, I could use a second body... to carry it.... wish I could find one :D But since there arn't many around I wine a bit about how much strength I have lost in the last two years.

Still waiting on a new tripod setup to take full advantage of the new lens. Everything I've done to date has been with a hand-hold or propped against something, which isn't the same as having a good sturdy base to rely on. And now that the tripod is supposed to come in, it's raining again (it does that a lot here) and I'm also traveling at week's end. Sigh ...
