Corrupt Nef files. Any advice what can be done?

I'm asking this for a photographer from a group who's panicking ATM: She shot a wedding. When she got home and went to import them to Lightroom it is saying all but about 100 of the 1500 images are corrupt. She's tried SD card recovery software and copied the files again to the computer with...

D5300, is the auto focus accuracy good?

Hi, I'm thinking of buying the D5300. The most important thing for me is auto focus accuracy. I don't do sports shots, & so speed is less important, but i wouldn't want to use live view as it's too slow. I take mainly pics of my child around the home, but she is a bit hyper. I thought I'd ask...

Rapid flash pulse for auto focus assist

I want to buy Nikon again (D5300). My old Canon DSLR and speedlight had a good method for helping auto focus in low light. The camera and speedlight fired a rapid flash pulse for auto focus assist. Does Nikon have the same feature? More specifically is the D5300 capable? Many thanks.

Lightroom: Positive Highlights - Does anybody use them?

It suddenly occurred to me that in my Lightroom editing I've only ever used negative highlights for detail recovery. It got me wondering if anybody ever uses positive highlights?

    Lightroom 6.6 sliders jumping

Although the problem began a few updates ago, the problem still persists, and drives me almost crazy. Here's the scenario: It doesn't matter if the slider's value's are at 0 or any other number, if i click on the sliders (handle) to select them, instead of them staying where there are they jump...

    Dynamic Area Auto Focus Question

I'm experimenting with Dynamic Area AF for moving subjects (runners). Apparently (if I read it right) it allows me to choose a focus point and the other points serve as a backup in real time. My question is: Do I have to keep focusing (button continuously pressed half way down) for it to work...

Does standing further back & zooming in increase the acceptable focus zone?

That's what I needed to know, Ty. Ps guys, We all knew nothing in the beginning. Sometimes the cleverest form of intelligence is working out what someone else doesn't know. Its not just about what you know. Sharing that information is human kindness, so Ty :)

Does standing further back & zooming in increase the acceptable focus zone?

    - Suppose you have your subject at point A, and you and camera are at point B - Lets invent 2 situations, each with an imaginary distance between points A & B: - Situation 1: It has 10 meters between point A & B and NO camera zoom - Situation 2: It has 20 meters between point A & B with the...

Which focus mode for photographing runners (moving subjects)?

I want to photograph ALL the runners from my child's weekly ParkRun event, as they are running past me, usually 1 child every few seconds! Ive only really got experience photographing still subjects I think it's fair to say that auto focus continuous is the best idea rather than single press...

Does changing your aperture value affect what you've previously focused on?

ie, when using manual focus, if I have set my focus point but then dial my aperture value up or down, do I need to refocus again? I assume that part of the lens actually moves when the aperture value is changed. Does that affect what has been focused on?

Is there something you can buy for shock absorbing during filming on a DSLR?

I like to video my child when she is running her races (mostly towards the finish line). As i walk filming with the camera the video being filmed can become shaky as i move. I've noticed when watching football on television that certain mobile cameramen on the side of the pitch have video...

What's the best way to make up for lost exposure when reducing flash power?

I've set my camera up to use Auto ISO, with a minimum of 1/60th second shutter speed (to stop camera shake), and mostly using direct built in flash on my Nikon D3100 for family photos. I think I’m probably a beginner to intermediate level amateur photographer but would love to learn more. I'm...

I want to buy a brighter ceiling light to help my indoor photography.Recommendations?

I have quite big rooms and high ceilings. At the moment my indoor ceiling lights are good for everyday living, but not quite bright enough to help my photography the way i'd like. I think my camera is having to compensate with a bit too much flash for my liking (even at 400 iso). I’m thinking of...

D3100 & Lightroom 4 user? Be warned about upgrading to Lightroom 5+

The white balance tables for the Nikon D3100 in Lightroom 4 are faulty. They have been fixed in Lightroom 5.4+. This means if you upgrade Lightroom 4 to Lightroom 5.4+, your white balance will be wrong for all your finished Raws that use non Adobe Standard profile/s (i.e use camera...

Arti (Aspect Ratio Tool for Images) FREEWARE

Hi, I've just had this brand new software written for me. It's a small application that lists aspect ratios for images. Exact ratios are listed in addition to a nearest match ratio based on a configurable preset list. I asked for it to be written so that i could check that a folder of...

Can 2 AF assist lamps be used at the same time? (on camera & off camera ext' flash)

Can 2 AF assist lamps be used at the same time? (on camera & off camera ext' flash) Hi I have a Nikon D3100. I am going to use an external flash (Yongnuo YN468-ii). I have also bought a Yongnuo wireless i-ttl flash trigger transceiver (YN-622N). I have yet to unbox the wireless transceiver or...

Flash settings. Do i understand them correctly?

I'm fairly new to DSLR's & asking because until now a lot of my images with flash have a subject in the foreground that's a bit too bright. So, i've been doing some research last few days and this is what i've come up with so far to try and understand the situation: - Take a test shot - If...

Faststone Image Viewer & Tiff display issue (displaying 2 pages) My image viewer has always been Faststone. I love being able to customize it to my needs, and also use it to view, tag and even batch rename my images. I've recently started using Nikon's new RAW development program Capture...
