    It's purely distance to subject. With the cranes they often come too close to fit in the frame with the 500. I actually had two D500s around my neck, one with the 500 and one with the 300.

    Considering a D5 for wildlife

    Congrats on your new camera! At 8000 you are going to have noise with any camera. The D 5 is well known as a very good low light camera. I can't imagine you would get less noise with the D500 in the same conditions with the same settings. Keep shooting and I'm betting you'll enjoy the D 5 a lot.

    According to information I have read recently, Sandhill Cranes have an extensive language. Their calls may seem random, but each has a meaning. They even make a sound that has been likened to a cat's purr when they are content!
