    In general the zooms that go from wide angle to telephoto are never going to be super sharp, and are likely to be more prone to things like chromatic aberration, lens flare, etc. That said, they are great for convenience and are way better than zoom lenses from 20-30 years ago.

    What was disappointing? Not sharp? If the focus was back or front focused, then fine tuning could help. If everything was soft that is not the issue.

    If it was me, I would just stay at 20 fps. The bird might take off, the deer might run, the ducks might start a fight with each other, etc. I want to always be ready for action when it occurs. For still subjects I just take 2-3 shots at a time and pause.

    I spent most of my morning yesterday watching Great Blue Herons at a pond by a rookery. So far no birds have paired off, but they will very soon. This bird, in full breeding colors, gave me a few nice in flight shots.
