It got it over to land, beat it some more. Walked to the water's edge and softened it up a little. It's head went behind that small tree and when it stepped forward, the snake was already down the hatch!!

The egg was turned. It hatched about two hours after I left.

You could try a hat stand, a wall mount of wire mesh or a fake head.
