Is it better to convert color to B&W, or take B&W from the start?

Is there any benefit to setting the camera for B&W?

    For D40, D40X, or D60 Owners........

There is no lens hood or clear back cover. The rubber armor is like new. It's FREE, but I'd appreciate $5 for Priority Mail (Which actually costs $5.25). PM me if you want it.

Picked up a new lens today. 50mm 1.8, but.........

.....it's one of the rarer Made in Japan models. I found it on Craigslist and the guy wanted $110. I offered $70 and he accepted. We met locally, I tried out the lens, and I bought it. Everything I've read says the Japanese models aren't very easy to find. I don't know if they're any better...

    TedG's Flowers 'n Stuff Pictures

I decided that since I can't find tanks and jet fighters every day, I might as well shoot what's available. Flowers and stuff. Well, here's the start. All photos in this series were shot with the D700 and the 2.8 60mm Nikkor (old model, not the current lens).

My D700 has finally impressed me.....

The quality of photos coming out of my D700 is higher than I can recognize, or appreciate. Compared to my D5100, I haven't really been impressed when I consider the costs. Well, out of the blue, I'm finally impressed. I don't usually check the camera data of the photos I take, but today, I...

Everglades Sunset, including an Real HDR Panorama

I took these this evening. I'll add more as I process them. I used different lenses, but the majority are done with the 24-120 Nikon Streetsweeper. Some are 7-frame HDR, and some are 3-frame HDR. They were all taken on the eastern edge of the Everglades in Broward County, Florida.

    D5100 USB Cable....... why?

What was Nikon thinking when they decided to use a "non-standard" end on the USB cable for the D5100?

    CF Memory Card....Why?

Is there any particular reason why the D700 uses the CF format? What other Nikons use it? It's kind of inconvenient..,, Is there and adapter so you can use small SD type cards?

Why are there different objective lens sizes? 52 vs 72 etc.

Why are some lenses larger, or smaller, on the objective end? Obviously, they all have to be the same size on the connecting end, but does a larger objective allow more light? Yet, a 52mm and a 72mm can share the same 3.5 or 2.8. My 18-55 is 52mm; my 55-200 is 52mm; my 35mm prime is 52mm; my...

    The Cinemaographer

I couldn't figure out what her equipment was. It didn't say NIKON anywhere, and she was too busy to ask. (And this is a 3-frame HDR image.)
