    Itinerary

I got my itinerary to Alaska today. TWENTY FIVE HOURS of travel time for crying out loud! Pensacola to Houston to San Francisco to Anchorage to Fairbanks to Barrow. I leave Pensacola just after noon on Saturday and arrive in Barrow about quarter after 10 the next morning (but they are 3 hours...

    Barrow forecast

The high tomorrow in Barrow AK is forecast to be 32º and SNOW showers. Did someone forget to tell them that is SUMMER?????

    Barrow AK here I come!

I am headed to Barrow AK in a couple of weeks for a 13-26 week gig at the hospital there. It services and area about the size of WA state. I will be basically starting up a Microbiology lab for them. It should be a lot of fun but I will have to go dig out a lot of my Army cold weather gear. It...

    An interesting site

For folks newer to photography. I am sure somewhere on the web there is an "app for that". How many stops?

The latest in my "Back to the 60's" project

I just got around to processing the film I shot from last week. The more I use that "antique" 105mm f/2.5 Nikkor P non-AI the more I like it. Sometimes less sharpness, more flare and lower contrast just make the image and add to the charm. The best $50 photo investment I ever made

    Connection

For the longest time I have tried to come up with a way to project the emotions that I feel each time I look at this image and I think I may have finally hit upon it.

    Sunrise over Mt Rainier

This was one of my earlier attempts (around 1986) at applying the Zone System to 35mm. My wife and I and our 8 month old daughter (who is now 28) spent the weekend hiking and camping on Rainier. I got up about an hour before sunrise (it was about 25º out) and hiked to this area, which I had...

    "Floating" Mt. Rainier

Taken from atop the Seattle Space Needle one early winter (by virtue of the fact that there are still bare patches on Mt Rainier) on an uncharacteristically clear day, Mt Rainier seems to "float" due to the haze. Nikon F2, 55mm f/2.8 AIS Micro Nikkor and Kodachrome 64

    Post your fisheye images

I realize that not many of you own one, because they are somewhat of an esoteric lens and can be expensive. But if you have one, post your images here! This is one of my favorite. It is I-110 which splits our town pretty much right down the middle. In this particular are of it, downtown, both...

I have to put this in the Off Topic category because it was taken with the Hasselblad

But it is one of my most favorite recent portraits. Hasselblad 500CM, 80mm f/2.8 Planar, Kodak T-MAX 100. Nothing compares to the Blad!

Installment 3 of the "Back to the 60's glamour" - NSFW!

I shot this in my next door neighbor's pool. He was home but not his wife! The absolute hardest part of this project is to find a woman who 1) does not have visible tattoos and 2) does not shave off all of her pubic hair. F2S, 105mm f/2.5 Nikkor P and TX developed "hot" to enhance the grain

For some people, beauty transcends their age

I won't tell you her exact age, but she and Israel were born the same year And yes, she has had a little "work" done.

    Good Grief!

I wonder what the atmosphere is like on Planet Paltrow. I would bet it is 100% helium. Just when you think some celebrity could not say anything more stupid, someone like this steps up to the plate and hammers a homer right over the left field stupid fence. Gwyneth Paltrow: Mean words hurt...

    Fort Barrancas Window

This fort, which is located on the Naval Air Station in town, dates to 1839. It is quite an interesting place to walk around. This window leads to a powder storage area. The bars were put there by the National Park Service, they are not original. Most of the fort is open but there are still...

    Barrancas National Cemetery

I have wanted to do this shot for a long time. It is a 360º panorama taken in the Barrancas National Cemetery here in town. It is quite old. It predates the Naval Air Station, on whose property it now resides. Some graves go back to the Civil War. This image is a compilation of 16 images...

Installment #2 of the "back to the 60's" stuff

I just love how the flare from that old single coated 105mm f/2.5 adds to the atmosphere of this shot. Not everything has to be super sharp and contrasty! And the grain just adds to the charm of the image.

    In Rememberance

I took this self-portrait about 5 about two years after I retired and yes my hair really is STLL that short ) years ago at our 3/4 scale replica of the Vietnam Wall. I am looking at only one name, SP4 Thomas “TJ” Chandler. He is on Panel 6E, Row 9, third name in. He was a very close friend of...
