    First HDR -- I think?

More than anything else, HDR should add depth and detail. This is especially apparent with the paint on cars. Even the absolute best controlled studio lighting is unable to reproduce what the human eye can see in broad daylight on a nice paint job. HDR, however, can:

    First HDR -- I think?

Pardon the crudeness here...there's a bit of a quality difference when working w/ JPG files. Even if you don't go for that "processed look", I think you're still lacking in the detail and color saturation departments.

    Slow?

Is it just me or has the site been running ungodly slow these past few days?

    2 HDRs from this weekend

Gonna break the rules here and post two photos. Both of these are 5 shot HDR images, courtesy of Photomatix/Lightroom/Photoshop. Found this old tractor by the roadside. There were several other pieces of farm equipment nearby, so I had to shoot down low to hide the hay baler that was just...

    Comments please..

The top 1/3 of this photo doesn't add anything to it in my opinion, so I would remove it completely. There are a lot of interesting textures here, but not much in the way of color....so I think this is a perfect candidate for B&W:

Rights Grabs: How to Protect Yourself

If you read the terms and conditions of just about any website, contest, or contract related to photography, odds are you've come across a rights grab. And if you participate in social media at all, you've been subjected to losing the rights to your work...and didn't even know it. What is a...

    A Writing Opportunity

Well, the interview went well. We talked for over an hour, and it was very interesting. He reminded me a lot of my grandfather, who passed away 6 years ago. Personally, I think there should be a law that states every young person should have to sit down and speak to someone from the Greatest...

    Photographing the "Why"

We often discuss and refer to creative vision in photography. It's not something you can read about in a book. It's not really something that can be learned at all. It's in you. When you get down to the basics, there are only two ways to describe your photographic vision: What and why In...

    A Writing Opportunity

My photography internship at the newspaper took an interesting turn last week. I have been asked to test my reporter skills as well by writing a feature story on a local farmer who is still farming at age 90. I know the man as he and my grandfather were friends, so it was decided that this...

Things I've Learned While Working for the Newspaper

Earlier this spring, in March, I accepted a photography internship at the local newspaper. I figured I would learn a few things in addition to getting my name out there and have more opportunities to build my portfolio. My professional aspirations are to one day give up the 9-5 gig and be a...

    Firefighter

Below is the photo chosen to run with the article. There are around 60 total images in this set, many of which are action shots. I only submitted a handful of the candids here. When I am sent out on assignment, I am usually only required to get 1 shot. Occasionally 2-3, and if it's a large...
