    Tokina AT-X Pro DX 11-20 2.8 Review

For testing I decided to shoot my bookcase - text on the spine seemed a good way to test sharpeness - and it was handy. I used one off camera flash bouncing off the ceiling for lighting. My "test pattern" This is the Tokina 11-20 at 20mm at 2.8 Crop of the top corner - also Tokina 20mm...

    Tokina AT-X Pro DX 11-20 2.8 Review

Not big into reviews and I know there are more scientific ways to do this. Testing is done with a D7100 and D610 After much trial and error decided that a minus one adjustment produced the best focus - this was done with a row of AA batteries as my 'test chart'. Set of five focus on the...

Didn't get a nice clear show without a twig in the way. I did get a warm fuzzy one - just have to learn to embrace the blurr and call it artistic license. Purple Finch or so I'm told - looks more pink than purple to these old eyes.

Tokina AT-X Pro 11-20 F2.8 Almost came home with a Nikkor 20mm 1.8G too but no. Let's see what this one can do first. I'll post my first impressions in a thread under wide angle lenses after I have some good sample shots. Tokina's do not include a sock or case so picked up one of those too...

    Upgrading FX Wide Lens

Well came time to make up my mind . . . Came home with a Tokina 11-20 F2.8 Cost a little more than the Sigma but I liked the feel of the Tokina, feels like a tank, and nice to have 2.8, even if you lose that 10mm start point. The reviews on this one were all very positive - it is my first...

    Upgrading FX Wide Lens

Slept on it - chat with my wife who has been reading the "PhoDOGraphy" book I bought last week - I get to read it when she is done. In the book she tells me the author recommends shooting dogs wide - and since she shoots with the D5100 maybe I should just get a good ultrawide AFC lens. We do...

    Upgrading FX Wide Lens

It is April after all - 1-3 cm of snow forecast for Sun, Mon and a little more on Tuesday. We still have a foot or so in the yard. The dog just loves to roll in the snow on the 'warm' days - that is to say warmer than say minus 10.

    Post your Birds in Flight

Does moment of lift-off count as a BIF - the talons are clearly no longer gripping a branch. My best guess at ID is Sharp-shinned Hawk - it is considered "uncommon" in these parts but not unknown. it was hunting small birds - this hawks favourite lunch. Shot right in my own backyard - all my...

Had to look this one up - I believe what we have here is the "Dark Eye'd Junco" - (or more correctly the Darkeyed Junco - the spelling police got me) Still never heard of it - may have seen them before as they are pretty common but I've never identified one. Had a small flock of them in our...
