Come to think of it, you're right about the long hood forward. Yes, Alco trucks ended up under various EMDs. While Alco didn't hit a high note with reliability, we can guess that their trucks were good. :) Soo GP-30 on Alco trucks at Mundelein, IL, 08/19/1978.

I continue to find some fun stuff in my black and white negatives that I scanned years ago and never looked at, like this one from October 1977 at Knoxville, TN. The 2707 is a former Savannah & Atlanta GP-35 on Alco trucks. Not sure what the story is there. No doubt, the Southern Rwy. struck...

From autumn 1977 at Knoxville, TN, Southern Railway GP-9s. The units without dynamic brakes are former Central of Georgia. With its generally flat profile, the CofG had no need for them. [Nikkormat FTn, Plus-X]

Nothing of artistic merit here, just a quick snapshot (so as to avoid a salesman  ) of a 2022 VW Mk8 GTI SE in Moonstone Grey, especially for crashton. We're both VW GTI fans and with the global vehicle shortage, seeing an Mk8 anywhere is somewhat difficult.

Well said Brent, so do I, though I was born a bit too late to remember steam. I also miss the pre-graffiti era when freight cars were clean. Some fans love the stuff, but I find it hard to admire vandalism. I treasure rare shots of clean equipment, like this new Canadian Pacific covered...

Caught an empty northbound coal train this afternoon, a rarity in this era and a sight that I miss.

Chicago, Burlington & Quincy railroad baggage wagon at the Monmouth, IL station, 1976. Amtrak's California Zephyr ended service to Monmouth in the early 1980s and the depot was demolished. [1976, Nikkormat FTn, Plus-X]

Thank you everyone! I'll pass your wishes on. It's funny how her red VW Golf was constantly noticed amongst a sea of silver SUVs in the parking lot. Over the years many asked, "Who drives that cute little red car?". :)

Mrs. Sandpatch retired today and being a Volkswagen owner and avowed fan, her workmates knew the perfect theme for her cake. :D

:D True! Maybe the painters formulated the paint to rapidly degrade. I was young when PC ruled and started taking train pictures late in its life. One of the few PC shots I have is this one of a former NYC Geep switching at Union Station in Chicago, March 1975.

Caught Norfolk Southern's train 12R yesterday with the Penn Central heritage unit leading. Given its black paint, NS wouldn't have to reach too deep in the paint cabinet to touch up the 1073. This is the second time I've seen the PC and both times it's been in heavy overcast.

From 07/25/1975 at Elgin, IL, a very short "dinky" led by an EMD F-40C operated by the Northwest Suburban Mass Transit District. Built in April 1974, the unit is just over a year old, one of 15 built. Milwaukee Road crews called their commuter trains "dinkies" and Chicago & North Western crews...

Amtrak's northbound Silver Star (now combined with the Silver Meteor) is running 8-1/2 hours late today. I caught up with it at Lugoff, SC at the only spot I could think of where trees wouldn't block a view of the entire train. Before the trains were combined a few months ago, the Star had one...

Caught NS 1068 this evening on grain train 51D, the Erie heritage unit. It was heavily overcast and the rush hour traffic was impossible, so I abandoned my plan to intercept it further north and settled for this roadside grab shot. Gotta love digital photography -- 3200 ISO! I know that...

Finally caught up with Norfolk Southern's Heritage Unit honoring the Jersey Central, though not in a good spot for photography. Nonetheless, I wanted to capture an image of some sort. The Jersey Central's tangerine and blue paint was born of optimism at the close of WW-II and many of their road...

Found CSX F764 yesterday working an industry. Sometimes I blunder into a decent shot. I like the way the gateposts frame the picture and the headlight reflection in the puddle is a bonus. I guess that the crew had the front door open to catch the breeze.
