    LR 6/CC Update

Apparently they've released a bug fix for LR. If CC hasn't pushed it yet just go to Help->Updates in your LR menu. I'll tell you this, they've certainly fixed the update process for LR. In LR5 you had to download the entire app which was approaching 1GB. This took all of 15 seconds to apply.

onOne Perfect Browse 9 for free

If you're looking for a quick way to import, tag and rate your images this may work for you. LR didn't seem to improve the import and build preview function all that much if you're using full sized previews, so if you've got a ton of images to cull through this may be a better option. Or if...

LR CC HDR Merge - A bit of an oversell

So like a lot of folks I pulled down LR CC yesterday and watched the Scott Kelby & RC Conception webcast yesterday. I knew about the HDR and Panorama merge functions, but I was pretty stoked when I found out that it saved the files as 32-bit DNG "RAW" files. For the pano's this is awesome and...

D7200 as a Wildlife camera? Not so much

When I saw the specs of the D7200 I was hoping that it would finally be the wildlife camera I wanted both the D7000 and D7100 to be. Alas, I'll continue limping along with the D7100 for a couple years...

Arkansas to Outlaw Street Photography ... potentially worldwide

If the implications of this story are true it's both heinous and ridiculous. https://fstoppers.com/news/arkansas-senate-passes-bill-make-street-photography-illegal-state-65704 Imagine the implications not just for street photographers, but for everyone with a Facebook, Instagram or Flickr...

    Jake's Backdoor Artistry, 2015 Version

I took the day off yesterday, spending it rearranging the office (and the gear in it) rather than shooting. This immediately relieved me of having a 365-challenge sword hanging over my head this year. :sorrow: So, this will be where I share my random shots from this year whenever I feel...

    BackdoorHippies 52 in 15

OK, I'm in. I'll do the Nikonite list in reverse alphabetical order of the 3rd letter in the category posting on a day of the week with a prime number date. Or I'll just do it one week at a time, shooting that week for that week, and will try and post the theme I'm shooting for (which does...

What's The "Best" Photo You Took In 2014 ... Ready, GO!!!

As I was looking over my Flickr stuff with my sister in-law over the holidays I started thinking about all the shots I've taken this year, and the many ways in which I have grown as a photographer. I started to wonder about the various shots I took and posted this year (and there were a lot of...

The Washington Post Colors Your News

The Washington Post website colors your news. No, seriously, it does, and not in the way those of you with certain political leanings might think. I have my monitor calibrated on all my computers so what I see on one is what I see on another. When I go to the Washington Post site all that...

    I Don't Mind Helping, But...

(Just a heads up, this is a lot about me just bitching, so if you don't care to read it feel free to move on) On occasion I get PM's asking my opinion about this and that, or more detailed questions about something I've posted elsewhere. I don't mind answering, though I think that this kind of...

2014 National Geographic Photography Contest Winner is...

...not me!! Photo of Woman Glued to Her Phone Wins the 2014 National Geographic Photo Contest But, it was taken by a guy who I used to sit next to in English class senior year - a yearbook photographer from my HS class and a great friend of my brother. Too cool. There's an inside story...

    A 50mm Holiday

So, I've decided that over my holiday break I'm going to limit myself to just a 50mm prime on the camera. I'll make exceptions for exceptional situations (i.e. family portrait around the tree or some amazing creature in the back yard), but otherwise if I need to zoom in or out then the legs...

Contest Photography - If you enter contests/challenges, read this

Up too early on a Sunday AM and I finally got around to checking in on Zack Arias' blog. I stopped doing the DEDPXL assignments because, well, I just did. And when I saw the post for the final assignment I thought about what I could do, and what I had time for, and then decided to skip it...

My Photo Is On The Village Voice - SURPRISE!!

I'm a big fan of craft beer, and in particular of Carton Brewing, a NJ brewery. I use an app called Untappd that tracks the various beers I've had, and when I checked in for the latest Carton release (a wonderful Black Ale call "Epitome") I posted a rather hurried shot of the can with the beer...

Crop Sensors - The ultimate primer

I hadn't seen this linked yet, and when I read it I thought it was likely one of the most thorough reviews on what varies and how when you're comparing cropped sensors to full frame or to each other. https://photographylife.com/sensor-crop-factors-and-equivalence There are obvious details...

    Did you ever notice...?

Ever notice that the guy who does the Phlearn videos sounds like he's simultaneously about to run out of breath and burst out laughing at a joke he's about to tell, and he never does either - nor does he seem to actually breathe? Watch this intro - he goes a solid 20 seconds at high speed and...

Color Correction - What Does It Really Mean?

I have a 30-day membership at Lynda.com that runs out this Friday, so I've been cramming as much in as possible. I spent this morning going through some of Taz Tally's Color Correction videos and I tell you, it made my head explode - in a really good way. I've mentioned things like histograms...

Adobe LR update can't come fast enough

Last night I was doing some macro focus stacking composites and getting an error saying my start-up disc was full. Really?!?! Then I realized, I'm carrying 2 RAW files for every D750 shot I've taken since I started - the original and the DNG file. But not only that, when I delete the useless...
