I would appreciate some guidance on improving these shots please. I have cropped them and sharpened with PSE but am not satisfied with the results you see. What steps would you guys suggest to improve them? This is the original first picture untouched.

I have just tried to input into this shot with PSE 5 what I have learned above. This skinny little guy has obviously just woken up from his winter nap.

How's this? I think the focus point is better and I have sharpened it and added contrast.
