Am I correct in assuming that using extension tubes interrupts the auto focus capability? Do they also have an effect on the metering?

I have collected all the RAW files on my computer into one folder in .nef format. I am trying, and failing, to get LR6 to import them. They appear as icons in the import window but are "grayed" out and the software will not select them. What am I doing wrong?
