    Pets/"Petography" Thread!

Max standing guard next to the new lens, (I really should give her a name already. Calling it "the new lens" is disrespectful to such a fine precision piece of glass.) while I grab the wide angle and go walk around the boat dock to take some shots as I promised @Danno. I'll be processing those...

I hope you guys don't mind, but I'm going to post a bunch more images here tonight. I had my first full day with the Nikon 200-500mm lens and did a lot of bird shots many different ways to see, how this lens performs with different settings and such.

Testing the VR on the Nikkor 200-500mm lens

Did a few hundred shots today with the D750 and the D7100. I don't know if I should start a new thread or put them in the "birds/BIF thread or the 200-500mm thread. Here is the first one I processed. Not much cropping. I also upped my shutterspeed to 1/200th. I usually shoot birds/bif at...

Just got the camera back from repair

Shutter failure. On a side note. This site is very big with lots of users and lots and lots of posts. It is by luck, that I came across your post with your question. It is best, that when you want to ask a certain poster something and you want that poster to see your question, is to mention...

How To Fix Wildlife Photos That Are Cropped Too Tight

Those I won't even try anymore. Too much hassle. The ones like @mikew posted yes. Those are easy enough.

Testing the VR on the Nikkor 200-500mm lens

@480sparky made a post comparing the two. According to him the IQ is about the same. The focus is better on the 200-500(less hunting in darker areas) the VR is outstanding(I can testify to that) and it is a constant f/5.6 where you can use a 1.4TC if needed. I would personally rather not use...

Testing the VR on the Nikkor 200-500mm lens

Here is a comparison between the 70-300 and the 200-500. I think the Tammy might be a little skinnier being f/6.3 but it is a 100mm longer. So they might be the same size.

The Rule of Thirds is Wrong? Yes... Wrong, Wrong, Wrong!

Here is an example. I took this image thinking that the dome would look nice just a little off center with the city showing in the background. After I processed the image it looked fine to me. After looking at it for a while (I was starting to wonder why I was looking at it so much) I noticed...

Testing the VR on the Nikkor 200-500mm lens

Ok fellas, I got up an hour earlier today to test out the lens outside in the sun. I put it on the D7100 this morning, and came to the conclusion ,that for small birds I will be shooting this lens with Emmylou. LOL, but when shooting larger birds like cranes and stuff, it will be on the D750...
