    March 2018 Theme: Dereliction

First entry… A neighbor's broken car. I don't know the owner, nor what happened to it. It appeared this way in my apartment complex's parking lot a week or so ago. I assume it belongs to one of the residents here.

Using non cpu lenses on the D3400?

Step-by-step to use a non-CPU lens on a D3200 (which should be applicable to @litakelley's D3400 as well)… Mode dial to “M”. Set the shutter speed on the camera, using the “Command Dial”. Set the aperture on the lens' aperture ring. Focus, and shoot.

Using non cpu lenses on the D3400?

I hadn't thought of this, but I'd bet that this is exactly @litakelley's problem—that she's trying to set the aperture on the camera. With CPU lenses, if there's an aperture ring, the correct process is to set that to the smallest aperture, and let the camera control the aperture. The G...

OK, so I don't have anything else, and I'm not likely to before the time ends for this challenge, so here's my entry—people interacting rather clumsily with time.

    Nikkor 35mm f/2 from 1970s on D5100 Success

Here is page 169 from the manual that came with my D3200. Note that “Non-Ai lenses” are the second item listed as “Incompatible Accessories and non-CPU Lenses” that “can NOT be used with the D3200”. In fact, non-AI lenses work just fine on the D3200, with exactly the same limitations that...

    Nikkor 35mm f/2 from 1970s on D5100 Success

Nikon claims that the DF is the only DSLR that can use non-AI lenses. My D3200, my three old non-AI lenses, and I disagree with Nikon on this point. As @SkvLTD says, the only issue with the use of non-AI lenses on modern DSLRs appears to be the conflict between the camera's AI coupling lever...

    Weekly Challenge Nov 22 - 29: Neon

Though this resembles a vacuum tube, it is actually a “soft tube”, a voltage regulator filled with neon gas. The glow comes, not from a heated filament/cathode as in a vacuum tube, but from ionized neon.

Harvesting Sunlight [Re: Weekly Challenge Sep 6 - 13: Harvest] This “field” is on the rooftop of a major department store, and when finished, will be a place where sunlight is harvested. Since some time in May, I've been working on a series of solar power projects. I started out as a temp...

    Post your sunset shots

I don't have a good neutral-density filter for photographing the Sun. There are, however, some big fires burning somewhere near enough to me, in the last several days, to put a lot of smoke in the air, which, I discovered yesterday evening, managed to serve as a sufficient neutral-density...
