    Portrait

She has both engaging eyes and an engaging smile. It almost seems more like a candid shot rather than a portrait because her eyes are towards the camera but her head is nearly straight ahead, not turned that much to the camera. Also, it looks almost like she's leaning back a bit. The backward...

    D800 video discussion

Thanks for the replies so far. Yes I agree that we need an entire section on the forum devoted to Nikon DSLR video because there's no way a single thread could do the topic justice. But at least this thread could serve as a starting point. Nice rig Glenn. I also want to get one of those Kirk...

    D800 video discussion

I couldn't find a video section here, so I thought I would start a thread discussing D800 in a video rather than still capacity. If anyone uses the D800 for video or has a nice vid rig they'd like to show please do! I just got the Rode pro mic and after an initial test it certainly has nice...

    Greetings from Boston!

So in case I am called upon to do videos at my work, I ordered a Rode VideoMic Pro :) So I was thinking about my recently acquired D800 and how it is too bad I have to wait to save up to get all the nice Nikon glass. So I did some reading and thought that maybe it would be fine to just get...

Here's another let me know what you think

Concurring with what's been already said, I took a stab at composing it the way I would like to see it. I would almost shoot vertical on this because there is a nice step-wise progression of water down the different levels to the bottom of the frame and that should be emphasized. I also think...

    Critique this one using aperture

Here's my version using PS... I agree with Scott, and would add that you need to shoot closer and underexpose a bit, also with as wide an aperture as possible to get rid of the busy background. There has to be a center of attention from which your eyes can wander around a bit.

    Greetings from Boston!

Hi everyone, I just recently joined up just to see what's happening here. My experience started as a child with a Kodak Instamatic camera in the 1970s, to a Minolta X-700 with full gear shooting Kodachrome 25/64 almost exclusively in the 1980s. During that time I was a yearbook photographer in...
