DIY - Build a large light reflector panel/light scrim

I have an outdoor shoot coming up and I want to make sure I have my bases covered. I have one of those 42" 5-in-1 reflector discs but I think I might need something larger for this outdoor shoot. I wanted a large light reflector panel but I have no intentions of spending a lot of money on one...

Color Profile settings for professional lab prints

I noticed there is no forum specifically for processing and printing images for customer sales so I guess I will try it here. I do not have a calibrated monitor and will not have for quite a while. I still would like to get the best color quality and correct colors with the prints I send to...

Frustrated because you have not received your tax refund yet?

I am. Was supposed to have been deposited before today. It is not here and my status still says "Being Processed". Unable to get a live human at the IRS, I called the 1-800-829-1040 refund help line. At the first prompt you have to choose "1" to continue in English. Imagine that...

Not a wedding, but not that much different. I have been asked to shoot the reception party for my aunt's 90th birthday party reception. I k now the building and it has fluorescent lights inside. It also has windows along the outside perimeter but they are small. I do not remember the...

50mm with Macro Reverse Mount Ring (not stacked lens)

Seeing Scotts macro shots using his rig I thought I would post some macros here using a simple macro reverse ring and a 50mm "D" lens with adjustable aperture ring. The ring is a simple metal ring with a bayonet lug on one side and filter threads on the other. You click the bayonet mount into...

Posting Images - Not all the same size inside the post

I am seeing that when I post more than one image inside a thread, even though they are cropped and sized exactly the same size, they will not be displayed the same size within the post. One is always smaller than the other, the first image is usually the largest. What is up with that??

60mm f/2.8 Micro Nikkor for the DX camera D90?

I am thinking about snatching up one of these used on eBay and I wonder if the 60mm is the right choice for my DX camera D90? Should I go for the 40mm instead or even go older and get the 55mm f/2.8 Micro manual focus?

DIY - My Variable Power Module for Manual Flash

Vivitar 283's and 285's had a factory variable power module, Vari Power, for these flash units. Cheap, at one time, and only marginally effective at controlling the flash power. I found a site, actually two sites, that detailed the making of a better variable power module using linear taper...

Illustrative Discussion - Effects of Depth of Field for Group Portraits

This is not meant to be scientific or any end all/be all to DOF with group portraits. What I wanted to do here is simply give some close idea, and illustration, as to how DOF affects group portraiture. This is intended as a learning exercise for all that are interested. Where I am wrong...

Learning Portrait Lighting - Interactive Lighting Placement

I found this somewhere and not sure if I had posted it already. It is a page about lighting placement and there is an interactive, "object" I guess, where you can click on different positions of the strobe/light and see the effect immediately on the subject. Also, use the drop box navigation...

Post those "I thought this would look better" shots

Just for learning purposes and fun I would like to see folks post their shots that don't get posted here in other threads. The ones that just didn't turn out like you wanted or what you saw. the shots you might just throw out or just hold on too for later. Others jump in and see if they can...

    Thank You Brit's!!

I just wanted to acknowledge the British/UK television and movie productions that have come out lately. I am absolutely loving the new Sherlock series I get here on PBS channel, starring Benedict Cumberbatch, and many other movies I have watched on Netflix that I would have otherwise never...

I have already posted this as my Project 365 for today but I want to get a little more actual feedback and suggestions from the portrait people here. This was my first ever portrait using off camera flash with a light modifier (Brolly Box) and strobe with radio trigger. Tell me what is good...

    Nude/Semi Nude Portraits

A good friend of mine has asked me to do some portraits, Boudoir type, of his wife. I know him well enough to know he will want some topless pictures as well. She agrees and wants them done. I am willing to do them and have no issues doing nudes. I am not yet sure if they want prints or...

Aussies who use eBay - please step inside

I just sold my 24-120mm D lens on eBay. I had no idea but a buyer from Australia made the purchase. I am not sure how he did this as I do not sell internationally and I thought my exclusion list kept this from happening. Anyway, I am willing to honor the auction but I am a little worried about...
