Thanks, Paul! A fortified priory (2021) If you think this looks more like a castle than a church, I can’t fault you. This is the village of Champdieu (literally, “God’s Field”) in the small province of Forez, on the eastern edge of Auvergne (all of that is more or less in the center of France...

A less menacing subject today for our tabletop section: A Family of Tripods! In front, the smallest is the Rollei Mini Traveler M1 tabletop tripod: aluminum, super cute, very well engineered and reliable, a pleasure to use in small corners or on tabletops, even with a heavy lens/camera...

Since some of you guys liked the church of Chapaize (many thanks to all! 🤩), I hesitated between uploading another one of it that would show the bell tower, or selecting another Burgundy church. I finally chose the latter. So, this is the church of the village of Blanot, 161 inhabitants, barely...

    Trying out long exposure

I like the second fountain best, the first one if a bit too busy. Both treatments look fine, the B&W maybe a bit better IMO. And of course I cringe at the converging verticals, that's the architecture photog in me. :giggle:

Very true, of course. The fact that I forgot about that, although I must have known it at some point, tells you how familiar I am with this sort of topic! Sort of makes my point moot, although that dummy battery exists for many other models of older Nikon cameras that aren’t as...

On Youtube I enjoy watching the no-nonsense videos posted by a UK product photographer named Scott Chouciño. He has excellent tips. Among the accessories he advises the use of is a “dummy battery”, which apparently is a device that you insert into the camera, making it think it is equipped with...

No, no, I was talking about the perpendicular style of architecture (see here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perpendicular_Gothic), nothing to do with the verticals in your photo... :geek: That said, I am interested in the camera combination you mention. I am currently in the market for an...

Traces of Romanesque in a Gothic cathedral Dedicated to Saint John, the cathedral of Lyon is one of the most prominent churches of France. It is also a UNESCO World Heritage site. Indeed, the archbishop of Lyon has borne the title of “Primate of the Gauls” since the 2nd century, as Lyon was the...

I see the perpendicular hit that one too, alas! There seems to be a definite greenish-yellowish cast, do you think the filter induced that, or was it an exceptionally “Italian” day in the UK that day? :giggle:

A cosmetic macro shot (2020) Having fun lighting and shooting beauty products pilfered borrowed from the bathroom. Nikon Z7, Micro-Nikkor 105mm ƒ/2.8 G VR macro lens, FTZ adapter. Gitzo tripod, Arca-Swiss Cube C1 geared head. Artificial lighting. Composite shot (haven’t noted the number of...

This was loads of fun to put together and shoot in a rather dark, dramatic way... Once again for a theme-based group on Flickr (“Murder, they shot” I think was the theme) in 2019. Nikon Z7, Nikkor Z 35mm, ƒ/1.8 S lens. Gitzo tripod, Arca-Swiss Cube C1 geared head. Artificial lighting. I see I...

    Dominique’s old stones (mostly)

That time in Venice was in theory for a three–day business trip and seminar. We were quartered at the Hilton Hotel on Giudecca Island where we stayed and had all–day sessions and meetings and assorted conferences. However, I was not really concerned by all that activity, and taking advantage of...

Sirui is not a bad brand. Chinese-made, of course, but not bad. Like Neewer and a couple of others. However, I've always stayed away from those flipping locks on tripod legs, as I find they work best as finger-pinchers. To secure tripod legs, I prefer rotating rings. All I can say about tripods...

Weekly Photo Challenge Oct 2nd - Oct 8th "Damaged"

Now, I really meant to participate in this “Damaged” challenge, but when thinking about it and walking around the house, in the garage, through the garden, in the shed and more generally all over the property, believe it or not but I realized to my great shame (or not?) that I do not seem to own...

I produced this shot to illustrate the theme “Countryside low tech” in 2019 on Flickr. Using a picnic tartan blanket as background and backdrop, I laid out a riding coat, a “shooting stick”, as the Brits call it (a folding seat cane, in normal parlance), a boot jack and my old pair of leather...

In the small and quiet village of Chapaize in southern Burgundy, a Benedictine priory was founded in the 900s by the monks of the abbey of Chalon-sur-Saône. The church that we can see today, and which is one of the most interesting in all of Burgundy, was built around Year 1000 by the great...
