    NIKON F4 vs NIKON D4 vs NIKON D800 vs Nikon D7000 w. AF-S lenses :D

So I got my Nikon F4 today. Imagine. I purchased it from a guy in Japan on the 28th. It arrived today. Wow. That was fast. Well, when I got my D4 recently, the excitement factor was around 8/10. Funny enough, the excitement factor of getting this F4 was 9/10. Why? Firstly, it is darn...

    Nikon D4 quick portrait :)

I had a co-worker visit my office and so I was demonstrating the Nikon D4 shooting ability and quality. What is fun is how I can hold the camera up without looking at the viewfinder or screen, point it at a subject and it just shoots away. And he was a great sport in letting me post these images...

    Nikon F3, F4, or F5 ????

So I'm looking to get a Nikon film camera. Well, actually I would like to just collect the vintage pro film cameras but have to decide which one to get first out of the Nikon F3 HP, Nikon F4s, or Nikon F5. I'm leaning toward the F4s for now because it has the best deals on Ebay (I'd like as mint...

    Nikon 300 mm f2.8 AI-S with TC-301 2x converter and Nikon D800

So I got the TC-301 converter today for my 300 mm f2.8 AI-S lens and of course I'd like to show off the setup here, in this instance with the Nikon D800 :D Also I did some test shots using the resolution Angel and wow I was actually very impressed with the image quality with this converter. I'm...

Nikon D4 with 300 mm f2.8 AI-S lens and Vanguard head

Just playing around with the new Vanguard ABH-340K head I got today. Man, this thing is much smaller and lighter than the ancient 3-way head I had (which you can see in my thread with the D800 w. this same telephoto lens). Adjusting the tension on the ball is pretty easy once you get the hang of...

Why so few modern Nikon lenses?

I was flipping through an old Nikon lens brochure from 1982. There are 61 lenses. Nikon lists 83 lenses presently on their website, but a lot of those are MF and older D lenses, or DX lenses. If we narrow the search to only FX AF-S lenses, there are only 36. Why? Here's the 1982 lineup...

    Nikon D4 vs D800 with 85 mm 1.4G and 50 mm 1.4G

Got the D4 today. Just admiring it in so many ways. It is actually lighter than my D800 with the grip+batteries. That was a surprise. What wasn't surprising is how this thing can focus in terms of speed and low light focus ability. There are also details on my white wall that would make the D800...

Nikon D800 at Night in Las Vegas

I can't say enough about how pleased I was shooting at night in Las Vegas recently with the Nikon D800. All hand-held, no tripod. It is unreal the sensitivity and quality of the sensor even pushing to 4000 ISO shooting f2.8 with the 50 mm 1.4G.

Problem with Lexar 32 GB 1000x CF card

So I never had any problems with my D800 before using a Lexar 32 GB 1000x SD card. I thought I would fill in that second CF slot with a nice card for wedding shooting and got the Lexar 32 GB 1000x CF card. Sooo, I set the primary card as CF and secondary as SD. During a long shoot, there are...

    First HR digital wedding

So I shot my first wedding in terms of higher resolution digital. I had shot weddings before but not with a full set of digital equipment. I shot around 1300 images in 4 hours so that's around 5.4 images per minute on average. Shot with a mix of the D800 and D7000 with the D800 running the...

    New Lighting Toys :)

Calumet Travelite Kit w. 375 and 750 strobes. Arrived today and so I went through the setup and basic testing of the system. 46" umbrellas. The stands go higher than the 8' ceiling in my living room (!). Funny how they call it the travelite when the kit is anything but light. This is like...

Which would you get, another camera or another lens?

Just for fun I thought I'd get opinions here on what I'll be saving up for my next purchase. I plan to do more portrait/wedding photography and am considering either a second FX camera (Nikon D4 for more rapid and low light shooting) or a longer telephoto portrait lens (200 f/2 VR). I could...
