Under what circumstances would you use the 1.5x crop option on the D800?

I'd like to buy a Nikon brand 1.4 teleconverter but I'm not sure it will work with the intended lens (or lenses). I want to use it with the Nikon 80-200/2.8 (2 ring), and/or my 80-400VR. Is anyone using the set up I'm intending? Or, any advice would be helpful. Thanks.

So, inconclusion.... the Cleveland Museum is truly world-class. As a side note, the Nikon 35/2 is a fine lens. If you're looking for a good, fast, and in-expensive low-light lens, the 35/2 is a solid choice. It's not necessary to spend in excess of a thousand dollars for a good lens.
