First off, howdy and welcome to Nikonites!!! As @Needa mentioned, sounds like the last time this camera was used in shutter priority mode, the shutter was set for long exposure ... 2.5 to 3 seconds long. Easy enough to change, the rear command dial will adjust the shutter speed.

During my trip to Charleston SC earlier this month, I took the opportunity to play around with stitched panoramas a bit. I'm not entirely happy with these, but feel they are fair for just starting out. All images where shot hand held, and stitched using Lightroom's internal merge functionality...

Wasn't necessarily shot for this goal, but the best I've got with the clock running out... :)
