    Silversnapper's Happy Snaps

Goodness me, even my more knowledgeable friends are divided on this one, the short antennae being an issue as you noted. o_O I think I'll settle for 'a beetle' ;)

Thanks to the British Wildlife Trusts website I found this: I think it's the same beetle.

    Silversnapper's Happy Snaps

Much to my surprise I managed to find a critter yesterday, I believe it is a Golden bloomed Longhorn Beetle (please correct me if I'm wrong). It was sat in front of a hedgerow blossom which I haven't identified yet.

Flash vs Available Light for Insects

Thanks, I was pleased with the shots, especially the amorous ladybirds (ladybugs I believe you call them). I can't wait for the bugs to come out and play - I'm getting some funny looks when I stick fruit pips on leaves for my practice shots :p

Flash vs Available Light for Insects

This topic is especially interesting for me as I'm still trying to come to terms with my shaky hands and an acute lack of bugs of any description therefore any tips and other into I can pick up is more than welcome. I am practising with the homemade diffuser you commented on here...

VR “broken” on Nikon 18-200 DX VR

In case you don't now, if the Coolscan ever thows a wobbly, there is a guy in Lincolnshire that has lots of spares and can repair most versions. Age and arthritis is taking it's toll so I'm winding down my film work, closing down my darkroom and concentrating on digital macros and a limited...

VR “broken” on Nikon 18-200 DX VR

I hope you get satisfaction. I'm still shooting and processing film after 60 years, 35mm up to 5x4inch, and I still love it although it is only B&W these days as colour is way out of my financial reach now.

VR “broken” on Nikon 18-200 DX VR

I recently bought a Sigma 105mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro OS HSM from MPB and I noticed that there was a definite 'clunk' as the stabilisation system in the lens disengaged after taking a shot. I contacted emailed Nikon Support to ask them if this was normal, they replied and told me that this was not...

Spray paint cans came became widely available in the late 1950's I believe. I repainted my motorcycle in 1965using them. I reckon they were too expensive for the graffiti 'artists' to be using at that time. How things have changed.

The common poppy (aka corn poppy) is a tenacious plant, equally at home at the roadside as in its more familiar habitat of corn fields. Here it is winning the battle for sunlight with dandelions and buttercups at the margin of a garden wall and pavement (walkway/sidewalk).

    Silversnapper's Happy Snaps

Out for a stroll this morning I came across these three opportunities - only to realise that I hade my 25-120mm lens fitted, NOT my macro lens. Fortunately I had had my Raynox 250 adapter lens in my pocket and I was able to grab these shots. Heavy crops to both images but at least I didn't...
