Post your 'before' and 'after' pictures

Yes, let's get back to the original topic of the thread. Though this might resemble J-see's work, the only reason I underexposed the shot was to keep the bright sky in check. Edit: I should describe what I did. I use Nik plugins in Photoshop CC. This one was done with Color Effex Pro. I...

Post your 'before' and 'after' pictures

Here is another example of the dramatic difference post-processing can do. It also shows how much information is hidden in the dark!

Best sensor cleaning kit for the D7100?

Alternatively, you can use Eyelead gel stick. Does not use any liquid, so no danger of leaving smudges on the sensor. Very easy to use and gives excellent results. Just remember to clean the gel every time on the thin sticky peeling part of the supplied paper. I used the other part until I...

Guide to Zero Noise with Median Stacking - Photography & Photoshop CC Tutorial

Re: Guide to Zero Noise with Median Stacking - Photography & Photoshop CC Tutorial As a scientist working with statistic and signal processing, I though I might add a few comments to this interesting thread. Firstly, @wornish, if I understand your example correctly, it is rather misleading...

Post your 'before' and 'after' pictures

This was my desperate attempt on lazy astrophotography. Lazy, because I took this picture from my back garden, with all the street and neighbours' lights polluting the picture. I took me quite a while to clean this picture. It was a while ago, so I don't remember the details, but it...

Post your 'before' and 'after' pictures

I think I'm going to like this forum. Post-processing can make a dramatic change to a picture. Let us demonstrate it! Post your unprocessed picture (either a jpeg straight from the camera, or a RAW conversion using the standard profile and no corrections). Here is an example. First, the...

Weekly Challenge Jan 7 - Jan 14: Flash

I admit I have shamelessly copied the idea presented earlier on Nikonites, though I cannot remember who did it then (sorry!). On the other hand, hasn't almost every picture we take been already taken by someone somewhere before?

What's The "Best" Photo You Took In 2014 ... Ready, GO!!!

Oh dear, how do I choose? I have quite a few favourites, but after a long thought I selected this one. It is a very recent photo, taken on Christmas day morning. We went for a walk to a nearby water reservoir, which we never visited before and... it was a miracle. First of all, the light was...

What is better for this night shot?

As Pretzel explained, starburst effect becomes visible at small apertures. Distance to the lights doesn't matter, as long as they are bright enough. They are (almost) at infinity. Here is an example of a shot taken at f/5.6 (100% crop): And the same at f/16. Note slight loss of quality...

What is better for this night shot?

As others mentioned, a stable tripod, VR off, mirror up and remote release are essential. On a related matter, I could suggest shooting when the sky is not entirely black, but dark blue. This is my personal preference: black sky is just too empty for me.
