    Moon/sun program

Does anyone know of a program or app that will tell you at what angle the sun and moon will be at any given time on any given day? I'm a big fan of the Photographers Ephemeris but they only give you the direction and not the angle relative to the horizon. TIA

2 night photos - San Diego and Coronado Bridge

These 2 panorama photos of San Diego and Coronado Bridge were taken last night. This was my first attempt at capturing the bridge at night and I'm not too happy with this image. I've got to figure out a way to get more height out of the bridge while keeping the moon in the image. Tonight is the...

    Constrained cropping

Does anyone know how LR or PS can be adjusted to give constrained crops? I realize you can crop by dragging the corner at a 45 degree angle but it's less than perfect. I would like to keep my X/Y axis ratio constant but so far I've not figured out how to do this but I've gotta believe it's...

    Tone Mapping

Can some explain in simple terms exactly what tone mapping is, why you would do it and exactly how you go about doing it. I'm reading this HDR book and it keeps talking about the importance of scaling back from 32 bit to 16 bit but doesn't explain how to do it. TIA

uploading images - can't see the file anylonger

There's been a weird change when you go to upload an image. You, or at least I, can no longer see the files that I upload but when I hit the "upload" button hoping it had grabbed the file, it worked, but instead of seeing the files and their individual sizes, I saw nothing. Has there been a...

Fun in the landing path of commercial airlines

There's a parking garage right in the flight way of the San Diego International airport. I was fortunate enough this morning to find a door not quite shut completely that allowed me access to the roof. Here is a compilation of photos using my D800 and 70-300mm, ISO-100

    Moon exposure questions

I understand I've posted more moon shots than anyone else but I'm still learning and experimenting so hopefully you're all not too bored with seeing them. That said, I'd like to ask you all a couple of questions First questions - Which of these two images do you feel is better. And by that I...

    Hummingbirds in flight study

I spent a little time trying to capture hummingbirds in flight. Shooting these guys was like shooting skeet only a lot harder. They don't stay in one position very long, moreover, they do not give your auto-focus a lot to focus on. So all in all, I'm fairly pleased with the results of my first...

    Hummingbirds are also carnivores

As I was going thru a large lot of hummingbird photos that I shot this afternoon (I'll post some of the better one's later) and I caught this shot quite by accident. I had heard that hummingbirds also ate bugs but had until now never actually seen it. I wish I had had a better bead on the bird...

    D800 ISO Moon Study

Okay, I was able to run an ISO study on the crescent moon of Sept 20, 2012. The images are straight out of the camera and the only adjustment made was the crop. D800; 70-300mm; f-6.7, EV = -2.0. Each photo was shot in M and spot metered and shutter speed was set at point 0 on light meter...

    D800 custom menu settings (A - D)

I just noticed that when changing my custom menu settings I end up changing out my folder count. I wonder if there's a way to keep all the counts consistent with each setting? Has anyone tried that yet?
