Weekly Challenge Oct. 30 - Nov. 5: "Low Key"

"Low Key" (Dangerspouse's choice) Low Key photography tends to be dark and moody. One great thing that Dangerspouse pointed out is everyone can choose their own subject for this weekly challenge. Here is a link explaining a little about Low Key photography for those who might want some...

    Holiday Wish List 2019

So what's on your holiday wish list this year? The holidays are approaching and Black Friday/Cyber Monday specials will be available soon! I see the Nikon D750 is being offered for a low price of $1196.95 (new body) right now - I am very tempted to get another one because I do prefer...

    Hark 2019

October 16th is Global Cat Day: recognizes the need to adopt and foster cats. This is our sweet adopted cat Cherub who is 16 years old. We adopted him when he was just a kitten. He would climb into the engine of my SUV to stay warm so I'd always have to check before starting it. He is a sweet...

    Hark 2019

One of our parks offers a Scarecrow contest. These were put up just today. I'm not sure when they judge them - possibly at the end of the time they are on display. I love the raven in the one with the pumpkin head. It looks very realistic. Mostly I take these images to share with the...

    Hark 2019

These are also cross-posted elsewhere. This tall ship was here for a weekend - when I went, there wasn't any parking available. So I returned on Monday without the hassle of crowds. Although they didn't allow tours on Monday, it was a great day for photos without having a lot of people around.

    Hark 2019

These were cross-posted in one of the bird threads. And I know I'm missing several photos that are posted elsewhere. But this was my first time seeing the Great Egret and wanted to include it in my own thread.

    Thanks BackdoorHippie

Back in 2013 I joined Nikonites - a time when this forum was really a hub of activity. That October @jdeg @Eduard @BackdoorHippie and I got together in Princeton, NJ to meet and join in the Scott Kelby Photo Walk. Fast forward 6 years. Jake (BackdoorHippie) donated some prints for a Cancer...

    October 2019 theme: Light Painting

"Light Painting" Let's try something completely different this month. Marcel suggested Light Painting in the thread where I asked for monthly assignment ideas, and it is a very rare topic here on Nikonites. So let's explore what might be very new to most members. Feel free to showcase your...

    Nikkor AF-S 300mm f/4D IF-ED

@Sempusa if it is this one, it shouldn't be squealing. I have one that is very quiet, but because it was heavy and I have tendonitis in my right hand, I opted to upgrade to a preowned PF. If anything, this lens is probably the sharpest lens I own even edging out my PF by a hair.

    Boats Anyone

A few more of the tall ship although I haven't had time to edit all of the images yet. In this first pic, one of the carved faces belongs to a man who has volunteered for at least 13,000 hours. From what I read, all the people who help are volunteers when this sails up and down the eastern...

    Boats Anyone

This is the Tall Ship Kalmar Nyckel that was docked at the Bristol Wharf over the weekend. The event was very crowded Saturday so I went back yesterday when I saw it was still there. During the event, they offered boat rides and tours of the vessel although those weren't offered yesterday...

    Monthly Assignment Topics

I'm curious to see what suggestions members have to offer for the monthly assignments. Although there are all kinds of photography suggestions/lists available online, I'm just wondering what the people here might specifically be interested in photographing. This is a way for even the beginners...

    RRS Clamp Question

Although I am not a fan of ball heads, I am possibly interested in changing the QR clamp on my Manfrotto tripod to an RRS clamp. The problem is I'm not entirely sure which clamp is used on the RRS BH-40 Ball Head will full size lever. Here is a link to the ball head...

    30-Year Timelapse of NY skyline

Someone in a local Facebook group shared this story of a relative. The guy has a setup that takes a NY skyline pic every 30 seconds and over the past several years has already accrued in excess of 4 million images. In one day, his rig takes 2,880 images (36 gigabytes of data daily). The article...

    Creative Live Photography Bundles $49
