Can 'auto ISO' be used when using a flash?

I'm curious how it actually works. I have a Nikon D3100 and a fixed Nikon SB400 speedlight. The problem is when i use the flash indoors in the evening my subject (my poor child) always seems to get overexposed by the flash like its throwing too much light on to her. I have 'auto ISO' set to on...

I can't afford a SB-700 Speedlight atm. Any other makes good or not?

A few months ago I bought a small Nikon SB-400 Speedlight. Recently I've realized i want to buy an on camera softbox/diffuser too (not a small one). So now i need to buy a bigger headed and taller flashgun (probably a Nikon SB-700 when i can afford it). However, they are quite expensive and i...

Why can't Windows Explorer show thumbnails of my DNG's on my Windows 8.1 64bit Pc?

Has anybody else encountered the same problem? I assume is has something to do with not having the DNG codec. However, on Adobe's website it says their DNG codec only works on Windows 7. Any ideas? P.s Yes i did convert my Nef's to DNG's. I'm beginning to wonder if i did the right thing!

Is there a way to make my flashgun sit higher on the camera?

I have a Nikon SB-400 & as you can see it sits pretty low down on the camera. I want to buy some softbox's that sit on the Flash (i want to keep the flash attached to the camera). However, what i'm finding is that most of the good softbox diffusers are a bit too big and would hit the lens...

Lightroom- Why does auto white balance no longer work after changing camera profile?

I'm using NEF raw files from a Nikon D3100 in Lightroom 4. Lets say for example I import a NEF file into Lightroom and click on 'auto' for white balance. The white balance in the image is adjusted correctly (somewhat). However, if I then change the camera profile (in the camera...

Lightroom: Which manual adjustments are equivalent to 'camera standard' profile?

I ask because: In the camera calibration section, the camera profile for Nikon that i like the best is 'camera standard'. However, i often feel it's too strong. Therefore i would prefer to start with 'Adobe standard' and use adjustments to get me near to 'camera standard' but ones where i can...

Blown out faces. I Reduce the flash but then get a dim image. Any advice?

    - I take mainly photos of my child on my D3100 - Most are just family pics indoors - I obviously need the flash on when indoors - I don't use a tripod as she's on the constant move, lol - I don't like standing too far back & 'zooming in' because camera shake tends to become an issue (as its...

I've made a D3100 18-55 VR kit Lens Profile for Lightroom. Testers welcome

The Lightroom lens profile is for the: Nikon D3100 with AF-S DX Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR lens. It's only for lens distortions and CA, but not vignetting. https://skydrive.live.com/redir?resid=F587D73C02F4DBBB!342&authkey=!AJQkT8g83tzKPj8 Your welcome to test and let me know what you think.

Nikon D3100 & Lightroom 4 Lens Correction problem

I have a Nikon D3100 with kit lens & also Lightroom 4. I've imported some Raw (NEF) files into Lightroom. I've enabled (ticked) Lens Profile Corrections and is set to auto. Lightroom recognizes my camera make and lens and has a profile for them (the kit lens is a AF-S DX 18-55 mm VR Zoom Lens)...

Nikon D3100 and kit lens distortion question

I have bought the following camera: NIKON D3100 DSLR with AF-S DX 18-55 mm VR Zoom Lens. I'm using DxO Optics Pro to develop just the RAW (NEF files). My question is: Even with distortion control turned off in camera (so i can perform it in DxO) there seems to be hardly any lens distortion...
