    Åland archipelago with "new" lens

My latest lens acquisition... I think I like the results. My idea was to get a smaller and lighter tele zoom, because it is not always convenient to travel with a 70-200VR, and primes are not optimal while on the road. I got a Zoom-Nikkor AI 80-200mm f/4.5 N and it is lighter than a 180/2.8...

I wanted a light and smallish tele lens, pocketable even. After some research and testing I finally decided on Zoom-Nikkor AI 80-200mm f/4.5 New version, that has the updated optical formula of 12 elements in 9 groups. It is much smaller and lighter than my 135/2 or 180/2.8 or 70-200/2.8VR. The...

    Birthday girl

My daughter will be 9 years old in two weeks. I shot a small "birthday photo session" with her outside. The lenses used were AI 55mm f/1.2, AF-S 35mm f/1.4G and AF-S 200mm f/2G VR II and the bodies were D2x and D3x. The clock battery of D2x expired and the date reset itself to 1/1/2006...

    Non-macro macro

A dedicated macro lens is not always a necessity. Sometimes any old tele lens with a TC or perhaps some extension might do the trick. These are not life size (1:1), but the reproduction ratio is about 1:3.5 which usually is sufficient to fill the frame with butterflies and dragonflies and...

    Nikkor AF-S 400mm f/2.8 VR

I couldn't find a thread about this lens. Could be that it is buried deep somewhere, or my ailing eyes just missed it. Anyway, here's a couple or reds shot with it. Red #1 20180515-_P3F5076 by foppa2011, on Flickr Red #2 20180515-_P3F5083 by foppa2011, on Flickr

    New body or new lens.

While the D7200 is a much more versatile camera with better handling and auto focus, the difference in noise is negligible. Perhaps one third of a stop at best. See the measurements below done by Bill Claff and DXOMArk respectively. There's two scenarios involving lenses, depending on whether...
