My whole area appears to be on fire today; there are currently eight fires in the region. The shot of this plume is from the closest of them and was taken from just outside my front door. I was thinking I was going to have to drive around for a good shot. ...

Wow... Such an awesome summation. I'd like to amplify the comment, "it is not about time, it's about effort" by saying I could not agree more. Getting better at photography requires more than just shooting. You have to learn and think about and then apply principles of good photography...

Sometimes understanding something is not enough to explain it clearly and I may be failing here... One last try though. When we frame up a shot, the light we see moves through the lens and hits the cameras mirror. The mirror redirects the light through the prism and then through the...

Personally, I'd go for a more dramatic look emphasizing texture in this shot. This really small JPG was kinda difficult to work with (yes, I know there's some posterization in the sky but try to look past it) but for overall effect I was thinking something along these lines:... ....

I'll go on record as saying I don't really care for how the Monthly Challenges are done on all points, either. I also think you bring up a valid point about "noobs" competing against Professionals, but the issue of selecting winners from different groups complicates things because judges would...

Wow Factor is really nice and will definitely get my attention. Good composition is also primary in my consideration. This might seem likely a silly thing to have to point out, but, I also like entries that are in keeping with the guidelines of the challenge. It seems like there's always a few...

Re: The Horoscope Fish Bowl-O-Rama :: Renaissance Faire :: The Renaissance Faire that comes to my town is pretty lame in comparison to the one I'm used in my home state of Kansas. Of all things for a home town to excel at, right? In Kansas no less. Go figure. Anyway, this renaissance faire was...

I don't shoot a lot of flowers so I was a little surprised to run across this shot I took back in January of this year. Being bored at work I punched up the RAW file for something to do. I have no idea what this plant/flower is but the shot turned out nicely enough... ...

Hey Tim, hope that helps... The shots you're getting with the equipment you have are entirely adequate for what you want; I think you just need a little experience working with LR to get the final output to look exactly like you want it. Bear in mind I'm working JPG's here, so you having the RAW...

How does this look? I took your shot and increased the brightness and contrast significantly, then sharpened it moderately. When I compare this shot, side-by-side, with the one you posted from one of your competitors I think they're very, very close. Your competitor's shot has a color...

I've got several thousand clicks on my D7100 and, maybe I'm a total idiot but... I just discovered the option to turn on the "Virtual Horizon" in the viewfinder and I'm pretty stoked about it, simple as it is. I actually kind of chuckled when I first saw it, but it'll work! Feeling a bit...
