4K and the Future of Photography

I've often taken great pride (and personal amusement) at laughing at photography's doomsday prophets. Digital was going to be the end of "real" photography when it first arrived on the scene, and you don't have to look very far to find old school film guys still clinging to this mantra...

    Illegally obtained photographs

I would love to go back to Gettysburg and Washington DC...went there on an 8th grade class trip many, many moons ago. I still have my photos, taken on a Kodak Disc camera (remember those?). Never did get to visit the White House, it was locked down because there was some summit meeting and...

    Image Protection 101

PART I - COPYRIGHT If you're the anxious type who doesn't like to read walls of text, here's the Cliff's Notes version: Are your photos REALLY protected by copyright?: In a word, YES. Let me preface this post by stating the obvious first: I am not a copyright lawyer. All the information...

Nat Geo Readers Submit Pictures for 125th Anniversary

Yeah, I agree. Any time I see this kind of crap, this is what I think of: Prince was in a legal dispute with Warner Bros. over creative control of his music in the 90's. For a long time, he appeared in public with the word "SLAVE" written on his cheek.

    #TheMineCar

Yeah, the new one is a silver GT 2.4 turbo. Got a few mods on it, currently sitting @ around 250hp (stock is 180). Probably won't invest anything else in it, because going up to a Stage 3 turbo is some serious coin.

How to tell a client no...

I've run into this before. Luckily, this is a friend of yours so you have a bit more leeway than I did when explaining this to a customer. My advice is: Stand your ground. Creatively, these are your photos and a representation of you as an artist and professional. Your name is attached to...

    September Monthly Assignment: Weathered

I won't even go into detail about how many miles I put on my car, or how many hours were spent driving around looking for an old tractor for this month's challenge these past couple weeks. This one was a last minute scramble to get the shot before my light was gone. Nikon D300s 5 bracketed...

Added a Glow 32" 5-in-1 reflector to my lighting modifier arsenal. Used it (rather, my lovely assistant did) on a couple recent outdoor shoots, and I'm glad I finally pulled the trigger on this...been wanting a reflector for a looooong time.
