I had been there for an hour or so already. :) I suspect a coyote, since there are plenty of them in that area.

Sometimes Burrowing owls catch bugs dramatically in mid-air, or they make a sudden pounce to catch them on the ground. In this case the male owl was walking along, saw the beetle, walked casually over to it and traped by simply stepping on it. :)

Can you test the lens on another body? That way you could possibly rule out an issue with your camera. If other lenses are working fine on your body, I suspect it is simply an incompatibility with or a problem with the Vivitar.

A young Coyote trotting at a pretty quick pace

"Hey, Mom! Gimme' that grasshopper, it's my favorite food item!"

Coyotes don't have refrigerators. When they hunt and have extra food they cache it away in a secret spot. I watched this coyote go dig this out and chomp it down. Pretty gross looking to us humans, and I'm not sure what it was, but I'm sure it was a tasty treat for the Coyote. :)

Got a family portrait this morning.

Male makes a superhero style landing right next to a little owlet. The owlet enjoyed munching on the beetle that dad brought.

And now Mom feeding junior with dad nearby. :)
