Caught Amtrak's northbound Palmetto today at CSX's Pee Dee River bridge at Marion, SC. This was the only mainline move I saw in four hours. :( The second photo was a yard job at Florence, SC operating in the shadows to foil photography. :eek:

NS's Interstate Heritage Unit has been cycling back and forth from Spartanburg, SC and the Port of Charleston for two weeks now, most often running at night when this railfan is asleep. Today it ran in daylight and I grabbed the opportunity. By the way, that's a solid train of spanking new...

Also came upon two South Carolina shortlines, the Greenville & Western and the Pickens. The PICK's units are GE-U18s, former SCL built in 1973 and they sound fantastic, with their loping 4-Cycle rhythm. It's been many years since my ears have been treated to such. G&W 3751 is a former B&O GP-9.

Taken this morning on the NS main at Taylors, SC, Train 265 with Illinois Terminal Heritage Unit 1072 leading. I wish I could say that I planned this shot, but the 1072's appearance was pure serendipity.

From today, CSX F779. I was waiting for a train headed by NS's Interstate Heritage Unit, but the train was late and I packed it in because of the heat and impending rush hour traffic.

Also caught CSX turning a pair of units at Devine Jct. in Columbia, SC. I'm adjusting to railfanning with my GTI, which includes not driving through flooded streets of unknown depth as I did with my pick up truck. :eek:
