    Northern Lights

I recently returned from a trip to the Canadian Arctic photographing the Aurora. Conditions were ideal except for a very bright full moon which affected my exposure settings. I used my D810 on a tripod with a Nikkor 24-85 lens and a wireless remote. ISO was 100, aperture was wide open and...

    Fill flash and long lenses

One thing I found with the MagMod on the 685. The detents on the tilting head are not strong enough to hold the extra weight of the MagMod so the head droops to the lowest setting. I found this to be too low for 500mm so I made a wedge out of a block pencil eraser and taped it to the top edge...

    Fill flash and long lenses

I just bought a MagMod Wildlife kit to use with my 200-500 lens on the D500. The flash will be a YN685. What settings do you recommend for shooting small birds coming into a feeding spot. I will be positioned in a blind about 15 to 20 feet from the target landing zone. Am I limited to a...

    YN622N-TX Shooting Menu Setting D7xxx

It worked as you suggested Paul at least, the customers appeared to be happy. I'm not sure I got the exposure balance and light positions correct though. Main light was high at 8 o'clock set for f8. Fill was at 5 o'clock, eye level set for f5.6. Camera was set at 250 sec. f8 ISO 100. Both...

    Washingtonions?

Liz and I are travelling South down the I5 to southern Washington in June, stopping with friends in Longview on the Oregon border. I'm looking for suggestions for places (photogenic) to visit in that area. Mainly interested in scenery and wildlife.

    Night photography

As I understand it, the "600 rule" states that 600 divided by the lens focal length gives the maximum exposure time in seconds to avoid star trails. Does this apply equally to FX ad DX bodies or does a crop body require an adjustment based on sensor ratio?

    Northbound

Liz and I couldn't make the CBB meet and greet this year so, as a consolation prize we deicided on a week in the Arctic photographing the snowy scenery and the Aurora Borealus. It will be interesting to see how the Nikons perform in the cold. It's currently -40 Celsius where we plan on going...

    Thinking of a 600mm f4 lens

Looking to buy a 600mm f4 lens if the price and condition are good. Don't mind which model as long as it's a Nikon lens.

Wanna spend some of my money???

I'm searching for a backpack large enough to hold two gripped bodies (D810, D500) a 200-500 lens plus at least two other lenses. Each manufacturer seems to have a different method for describing the capabilities of their products so I am somewhat confused. Does anyone have knowledge of a...
