Here is a 100% crop @ 450mm,you are a lot younger and fitter than me so you could possibly half the shutter speed and so half the ISO which would give better results No idea about the 300mm and 1.4 yet ;)

Dont know if this bird had there version of cramp but it stood there ages like this and then walked off normally

Been trying the macro but not got it sorted yet.

I can see the fish in its mouth but even unsharp mask couldn't save this one :D
