    Clovis' Nikon Nuggets

Got up early and headed over to Magnolia. The birds were very active. Was talking with a friend from the CNPA and this guy flew by. I just threw the camera to eye and tracked and fired. I checked the first couple of the string on the back of the camera and thought the Z8 didn't lock and track...

Any tips on pre release capture?

Got a couple more this morning. I need to go back to Magnolia and set up with a tripod. This looks like a great place to get some small birds in flight early in the morning. These were just a couple quick handheld pre-captures. I had my shutter speed set to 1/2000 for some other shooting I was...

    Post your award winning photos

I'm sure that some of you enter, and place in photo contests. Here is the place to brag, I mean share, about it. I'll start off. North Charleston, SC has an arts festival every year and they have competitions in various categories. I managed to win a second place in the amateur color section...

I am still here. Just busy. 2025

It's a good thing you were in Australia. Here in the US that would have been a whopping 9.8 feet. Hope you get back on your feet soon.

Any tips on pre release capture?

Here's another one I just edited. Probably the best of the batch.

    Woody's Hermosa Luz 2025

Maybe you posted and I missed it, but what is the circumstance with the owls. You've been posting superb owl images nearly every day. This must be a nest nearby where you live.

    Snapbridge Question

My intent was to offer a simple, inexpensive alternative to using Snapbridge. Between my experience with it, and the issues I see brought up here quite often, it seems to be a troublesome piece of software, and a viable alternative might be handy.

Any tips on pre release capture?

Tried things out again this afternoon. Not there yet, but better. Not a great shot, but it is somewhat sharp. I raised the shutter speed from 1/3000 to 1/4000 later in the day. Same string, a better presentation of the bird. Needed a little faster shutter speed, but not too bad. Harsh light...

    Snapbridge Question

Well, if you use the card reader and just open the images from the external card, they are not downloaded to the tablet memory, unless you copy them. Snapbridge is not involved in this. I have browsed images from my camera's card like this without Snapbridge even loaded on the tablet.

    Snapbridge Question

As an alternative, you can get a card reader that has a USB-C connection, or whatever connector your tablet has. You can put the card in the reader and plug it into your tablet and read directly from the card. I have tried this using both with SD and CF Express cards. I picked up a CF Express...

Any tips on pre release capture?

I am planning on going back before the warbler breeding season is over. I'll try and pick a bright day. It wasn't too bad today, but we did have more overcast than sun. I think I'll bring my tripod to help keep me on target while I'm waiting for the "jump". The nice thing about the warblers is...

Any tips on pre release capture?

Well, I tried out the pre-release capture on some warblers this morning. Not ideal conditions as there wasn't a lot of light due to a heavy canopy. I really wanted some in flight pictures so thought I'd give it a shot. I set the shutter speed too slow to get sharp images for small birds, trying...

    Clovis' Nikon Nuggets

Well, the insect activity in my backyard wildflower plot is slowly increasing. I was lured out by a black and yellow beetle on a deep purple flower, but he took off as soon as I started shooting, and I only got one poorly focused shot. I looked around before giving up and discovered this...

    Dolphin

My limited experience with jumping dolphins is that the jump is slow enough to be able to be captured if you are ready to shoot and quick on the shutter. I was lucky enough last year to be on the beach when a pod was fishing offshore and frequently breaching. I switched to my long lens and tried...
