I gave the new D500 a good workout today. :)

First real day of shooting with the D500. 1800 shots, mostly birds. The focusing hit rate on birds in flight seems significantly better than the D7200. Most of the missed were my fault. It got some birds in focus that I never would have thought possible on prayer shots. It's not perfect, though...

Nothing scientific here, but this is a 1:1 crop with the D500. Backlighting and very flat light, exposure bumped .7 stops in Lightroom. A little luminance and sharpening. +10 on contrast. I'm hoping to get some bird in flight shots tomorrow. :)

I'm gonna' go ahead and get one. I'm waiting for a call back from my local camera store. If they don't have them in stock, Cameta and Best Buy show them as in stock. Now I have to decide what I'm going to sell...

I love it when the pelicans return. They are the birds that got me interested in bird photography in the first place.
