Old Photo Restoration Filter in PS

I've played around with a few more old photos. Some do much better than others. Here's one of my mother. Before: It's in pretty good shape, but very soft and lacking in resolution. Here it is after running through the old photo restoration. And just for fun, I ran it through colorize...

    ML Z + long lens + gimbal

Yes, I had read a couple of reviews complaining of them being stiff. I also read a few that disassembled and regreased them. I'm fairly handy, so I figured I could fix that if it were a problem. Right now I find the tilt to be very smooth and easy. The pan is very smooth, but seems a tad...

    ML Z + long lens + gimbal

It's the Neweer "Professional" model. Amazon Yes, it's not one of the high end gimbals. I mounted it on my old Bogen 3021, and put the 200-500 F5.6 Nikkor lens on it with my Z5 and adapter. I had to play around just a little with the placement of the arca swiss style mounting plate. Got...

Can "Scene" mode effects be added later?

There is nothing wrong with using the scene modes. I would say that it's a good idea to keep an eye on what the camera is doing and make inputs as necessary. I find that it is easier to monitor and change when in aperture, shutter or manual mode. YMMV Just like driving a manual transmission, it...

Can "Scene" mode effects be added later?

My understanding of the scene modes is they affect exposure only. They will choose what the camera decides is an appropriate combo of aperture and shutter speed, weighted toward the type of scene selected. You can adjust exposure post processing, although there are limits. I normally consider I...

    D3100 upgrade

I'm with Fred on this. I have Lightroom/PS. They are great programs. I don't use the cloud, I just export them to my hard drive organized by location and date in different folders, with a couple kitchen drawer folders for times I just take a couple shots instead of an outing with lots of pics...

    D3100 upgrade

Whatever system you end up using, be sure and have backups. My daughter lost a lot of her pictures this year when her hard drive crashed. I'm sure you know this, but it's easy to get complacent about backups.

Well, to be honest, PS did almost all the work.

If you look closely you can also see a lever action rifle, probably a Winchester, propped against the cabin wall, next to the lynx pelt.

Old Photo Restoration Filter in PS

He was born in the late 1890s and would have been around 20 when drafted. Hard to pin down his age from the photo, but around 20 fits. The copy I have has an overlaid criss cross pattern. I'm wondering if it was stored with cloth, or something else in contact and it put a pattern onto the...

Old Photo Restoration Filter in PS

Well, he was working as a cowboy there when he was drafted for WWI. They sent everyone home after he had been there a few weeks due to the Spanish flu. Everyone in the family says this was taken around the time he was drafted. Kodak introduce the Brownie in 1900, so it's quite possible that was...

Old Photo Restoration Filter in PS

This is the scan of a photo. I am sure that the photo I scanned was a photographic copy of the original. It's likely my dad made the copy in the 60s or 70s, and the original was either lost, or is somewhere in a relative's closet. I would love to get a hold of the original, it is a really neat...

Old Photo Restoration Filter in PS

Here is the result from running it at 100% enhancement, and 100% facial enhancement. No other edits made. There are only a few options to choose from with this filter. I might try backing off on the facial enhancement and see how it compares. I think the face in the first iteration, and the...

Old Photo Restoration Filter in PS

I assume you used topaz on those. It really took the first photo up a notch. I need to play around with the filter in PS. The enhancement slider was only on about 50%. I haven't tried it on higher enhancement due to it taking a while to process, and I've had a couple of crashes. I may not have...

Old Photo Restoration Filter in PS

OK, I was able to get the picture that failed to work. I had done some work on the image in Lightroom, so I found the original unedited file and ran that. It worked. Wasn't as good as I hoped, but a definite improvement. Original: My grandfather working as a cowboy just prior to WWI...

Old Photo Restoration Filter in PS

I finally installed Photoshop yesterday and have been playing around with it. While looking for tutorials I ran across a reference to this filter. It's a beta, but I wanted to try it as my wife is into genealogy. Good news and bad news. I tried it on three photos. It failed on two of them, but...

    Needa's Dreadful Depictions!

Well, I wouldn't consider coins more than say 50 or 60 years old as loose change. I always wanted to find at least one gold coin during my diving the local rivers phase. Never did. I found some much neater stuff, but no gold. OK, I take that back, I did find a small gold panda coin (modern...
