NEWBIE... Camera lense wich one and why

I agree that I wouldn't look to adding the 18-55. As to where to go next with lenses, that depends on what type of photography you are drawn to. At this point, you may well not know. For most a tele zoom would be the logical choice. There are a couple 70-300 zooms that are decent lenses and will...

I'm afraid I may have already given in. Nikon 105mm micro Z

OK, after mulling it over for a couple weeks, I went ahead and ordered it from B&H. They had a deal that included a UV filter, big woo, and free overnight shipping, so I pulled the trigger today. I'll report and post some pics taken with it after it arrives.

Thanks, Dawg. I am having a lot of fun with it, despite the morning humidity. If you haven't seen it, I started a post in Macro with pictures I've been taking at Cypress Gardens. I feel like I've made some real progress, and hope to improve in the coming months before the cooler weather sets in...

    Focus Ring Stops vs Continuous

EXIF data is still available using an add on to your browser. I've been using xlFr on mine.

    Focus Ring Stops vs Continuous

Focusing on the moon, you should be able focus just fine in the viewfinder. If you are looking to expose the moon properly, rather than stars, there is plenty of light to be able to stop down to F11 give or take, which will give you enough depth of field to make up for any minor focusing error...

Tried some handheld focus stacking series this morning. Just slowly leaned in while taking shots.

    My macro musings

Disclaimer, I am still fairly new to macro. I am certainly no expert, nor did I stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night. These are some of the things I have learned that may be of help to some of you out there. These things are probably already known by the more experienced. Some of them may be...

    Lens compatibility.

All of the limited compatibility listing have a footnote at the bottom. They are either manual focus only, or no TTL metering.

Welcome. There is a lot to consider when buying your first camera. Which brand is a large consideration, as lenses for one brand pretty much cannot be used on another brand of camera. Obviously we are Nikon users here, although there are some who have other brand cameras as well. One suggestion...

    Lens compatibility.

Yes, you'll definitely want a full frame (FX) lens for your D750. With a DX lens attached, you will be getting something like 12 MP out of your full frame sensor.

    Macro at Cypress Gardens

Well, the weather is still fairly nice after the storm, and it's going to be hot again starting tomorrow, so I headed back over to Cypress Gardens this morning to strike while the iron is hot. Glad I did. My guess is this is a male mosquito. Note the feathery antennae. I may need to work on...

Usually I get them when they are green on green. They can change between green and brown, I guess orange is beyond their capability. There are lots of them around, and after taking quite a few pictures of them, I don't get all that excited about shooting them. Also, unlike insects, many of them...

    Photo hosting

I only post my images here and on another non-photo interest website that has a photography subsection that a few folks there post to. Both this site and the other allow direct upload of images from your computer, so there is no need for a hosting service, unless you just want them out there for...

Thanks, Woody, coming from you that means a lot. For this shoot I used the old 105 Nikon after removing the focus ring. I can manipulate the mechanism directly this way. It's stiff and uneven, but works. I set it to the magnification I think I'll need and focus with camera distance. Even...

Well the Pup made it out with me to the gardens this morning. Weather was really nice for this time of year. Not sure if this is the same frog from last weekend, but he was in the same general location, and posed for us for a while. Lots of dragonflies around, Took some patience to get them...
