I have GOT to get a bigger camera

Don't be confused by being able to read the EXIF data in the post, and the EXIF data not being included in the image file. When I export an image using Lightroom, there is an option for including all metadata or including copyright data only(which strips out the metadata). I have had to remove...

I have GOT to get a bigger camera

I flew as a loadmaster on C-141 aircraft for almost 2 decades. The C-130s were considered our "little" brothers, and the C-5s as our big brothers. I never got a chance to fly on a C-130, but I deheaded on a C-5 once. That's one big aircraft. If this shot were of a C-5 you would definitely need a...

Anyone having trouble with checkerboard artifacts in the backgrounds with Topaz AI?

Thanks, I'll upgrade to the new version and see if that takes care of the issue.

Anyone having trouble with checkerboard artifacts in the backgrounds with Topaz AI?

A new version of which? Photo AI or Sharpen and Denoise?

Anyone having trouble with checkerboard artifacts in the backgrounds with Topaz AI?

No problem. I'm known for being cheap about some things, but since I got back into photography, I decided to spend at least a little more than usual to upgrade my computer so that it would run editing software, at least a little faster than the older model I was working with. I couldn't see...

Anyone having trouble with checkerboard artifacts in the backgrounds with Topaz AI?

OK, I downloaded the stand alone programs and ran this same photo through Sharpen, Denoise, and then both. The artifacts did not show up, at least in this photo. I like Photo AI a little better than the stand alone programs, but at least I can work around this issue when it rears it's ugly head...

Anyone having trouble with checkerboard artifacts in the backgrounds with Topaz AI?

Well, I have an Iris XE integrated graphics. It's not a high end gaming graphics, but it's supposed to be fairly capable, and isn't that old. I'm running an 11th generation i7 processor, and the machine was purchased new a few months ago. I just looked at the system requirements, and it says...

    Post Your Birds (3)

That would be an all you can eat buffet for the squirrels in my backyard. They'd have it cleaned out in no time and be knocking on the back door for more. If I want to feed birds, I have to use baffles, and squirrel resistant feeders, and even then the darned tree rats manage to get into them.

    hark 2023

I remember when they used to have depth of field guides on the focusing ring of the lenses.

    DX mode change

That's true, but my point is that shooting full frame and cropping is equivalent to shooting in DX mode. If the OP wants to shoot in DX mode for framing or other reasons, that is fine, just pointing out that there is no resolution, or magnification gain by shooting in DX mode with an FX lens...

Anyone having trouble with checkerboard artifacts in the backgrounds with Topaz AI?

No, that's just trying to bring up severely underexposed shadows. If you look at the image in my original post at the top of the page, you will see a faint square pattern throughout the entire background, and a very noticeable set of square around the flowers. FYI, I am not trying to fix a...

    DX mode change

This begs the question of the reason behind this. Yes, you will gain the 1.5 crop factor, effectively turning your 500mm lens into a 750mm. However, since you are not using a large portion of your sensor, your resolution will suffer commensurately. You can accomplish the same thing by shooting...

Anyone having trouble with checkerboard artifacts in the backgrounds with Topaz AI?

The Pup has had the same issue using Photo AI on her PC. Same brand, not sure if the graphics processor is the same. They were purchased a year and a half apart. I also had the issue with my old computer, different brand.

Anyone having trouble with checkerboard artifacts in the backgrounds with Topaz AI?

The original file is approx 25 MB. I don't think I can send that size file via e-mail. I tried doing that once before and the system wouldn't let me. I just tried it, and it balked. I sent the unedited original converted to JPG. I ran it through Photo AI and saw the artifact in the preview...

Anyone having trouble with checkerboard artifacts in the backgrounds with Topaz AI?

I haven't forgotten to report back. I still haven't gotten an answer from Topaz. They emailed me very quickly after my initial contact and requested the original file, a screen shot of the settings in Photo AI during the processing, and the processed photo file. I sent the files back to them...

    DX mode change

Welcome. Check page 74 in the online manual. It looks like you can either manually select, or put it in auto, and it will automatically go into the correct mode depending on the lens that is attached. D810 online manual

    Clovis' Nikon Nuggets

I just wish they would let me get close enough to fill the frame. The least little movement or noise and they are squawking and flying. I would like to get something like this, only with a male wood duck in breeding plumage. I took this one last year at another swamp. Wasn't really happy about...

    Clovis' Nikon Nuggets

Decided on another trip to Cypress Gardens today. Wow, lots more wood ducks. They were everywhere. They were skiddish! Still. I did get a chance to snap a few. None were very close, and I had to crop them fairly heavily. I guess this is why they call them "wood ducks". I got pretty...
