A few images from the Circle B Bar Reserve this past weekend.

Overall, a very successful two days out shooting. I will definitely return! Imagine about 3 acres that looked like this. I have never seen anything like this before on my 59 years on this planet.

There are three chicks in the nest!

The Decorah IA Baldie nest is a busy place once again! These chicks are named D26, D27 and D28. D25 was killed last year by a car but as far as I know D24 and D23 are still doing fine. Decorah Eagles, Ustream.TV: This is the Decorah Eagles nest, which is located just south of the city of...

    Post your alligator/crocodile photos

There is something truly fascinating about the American alligator or the species of crocodiles. They have changed little in the last 7+ million years and are usually the alpha predators of their habitats. Their primary predators are only larger alligators or crocodiles. When you see an alligator...

The K3 screen from Focusingscreen.co arrived yesterday

It took about 5 minutes to install. It will make focusing with the beast (600mm f/4) and TC-300 mounted much easier and faster. Every bit as easy as focusing with the microprism screen in the D700. The microprism blacks out a little but the split image still works perfectly. Without the TC-300...

A few shots from Payne's Prairie today

A lot of hiking today out on the Prairie. There are about a dozen wild horses out on the Prairie. They were a good ways off of the trail so I had to walk about a half mile through waist high marsh grass to get within shooting distance. There are also about 20 bison but they were a long way...

    Interesting question........

Which eye do you use to peer through the viewfinder and does it match your "handedness"? I am right handed, though decidedly ambidextrous after over 45 years of playing the drums but i use my left eye to peer through the viewfinder. I also shoot pistols with my left eye but rifles and shotguns...

Overall not a bad day out on Payne's Prairie

The D7100 is really growing on me when it comes to nature photography! The "beast" is giving it two thumbs up!

Something goofy is goiing on with this site

Anyone else experiencing this? When I go to "reply with quote" about 50% of the time only the first line or two of the original post shows up. Also, if I want to edit my post, often the same thing happens or if it does show the whole quote, when I make changes it will not let me save it. You...

Mom E. Gator was back and this time she brought the twins

She was in the exact same spot as the two weekends previous and this time there were two yearling alligators on her back. The light was not the best, it was kind of harsh and I only managed to get a few shots before she slithered into the water, washing both of the kids off and leaving them to...

    Well I retired the D300

And replaced it with a new D7100. The D700 will still be my go-to camera for most work but the D7100 gives me better IQ and ISO performance when using my 300mm and 600mm lenses for nature photography. It may also come in handier for macro work.

Just got an Neewer 14EXT ring flash in the mail today

Although I don't think I will use it much in the TTL mode, a few test shots does peg the exposure pretty close to the mark.

Kind of a slow morning at Newnan's Lake today

But a few birds were stirring at least. If I wanted to get aton of shots of Turkey Vultures (why???) they were everywhere around the docktoday. American White Ibis; A pair of Anhinga; and Great Blue Heron

Some images from Sweetwater Wetlands Park

I got out to the Park this morning on a rumor that theWhooping Crane(s) had been spotted there. Well no Whooping Crane, but there wasa fair amount of wildlife out there. I spotted a very large Alligator baskingon the bank with her mouth open. I grabbed the 600mm f/4, TC-300 and D300 toget some...

    Nikon Scan 4.0.3 download

Does anyone here know of a RELIABLE URL to download Nikon Scan 4.0.3? My copy of the zip file is on my desktop at home. When you put it into a search engine all you are getting are these sites which are fill of spyware and don't really have the software. If you by chance have the .zip folder I...

    Gaterz everywhere!

I checked out the La Chua Trail south of Gainesville today. It is about 1.75 miles long though wetlands with several large lagoons, some of which are at least covered with water hyacinth and/or duckweed. There are wild horses and bison at the end of the trail but they were too far away even for...

A good day of shooting at the Sweetwater Nature Preserve

The weather was perfect and there was wildlife everywhere at the Sweetwater Nature Preserve a little south of Gainesville FL This one was an 8 footer. There was a 10+ footer in the same lagoon. We watched it snag a heron this afternoon. That bird never knew what hit it. Double Breasted...

What macro/ring flash has worked the best for you?

My trusty 42 year old Vivitar 5000 ring flash still works as advertised but really only has 2 modes; full manual and 1 stop of automatic. I want a lot more control. I honestly don't see that much use for auto or TTL, but would like flexibility when it comes to being able to vary the manual...

I finally managed to get out and do some shooting today

Around Gainesville, McIntosh and Micanopy. The Beast and mini-Beast got a good workout today. And before you ask, most of the EXIF data is incorrect because I honestly can't be bothered to change it because I use all manual focus AIS and it is a PITA to bother with. This little critter (it's a...
