    Post your Train shots!

Here's another one from my Plus-X days with the Nikkormat, taken at Newark, NJ, probably in the summer of '76 as a big G rolls in. The GG-1s were magnificent machines.

From October 1977 in Knoxville, TN, an L&N C-420 awaits departure from the L&N's station for a short journey to Neyland Stadium to watch the U. of Tennessee Volunteers compete on the gridiron. On football Saturdays, the L&N operated a one car hospitality train for shippers and other friends of...

Seen the same day on NS is this strange visitor from another planet, a custom-rebuilt locomotive owned by Herzog to serve work trains. Herzog contracts with railroads for services such as tie replacement. My guess is that her unusual side blisters contain a double serving of diesel fuel...

Seen last week in Chester, SC, Lancaster & Chester 6002, an EMD SD40T-2 built in May 1980 for the Southern Pacific. These were specially designed with a large cooling air intake you can see at the rear, down low along the walkway. Nicknamed "Tunnel Motors", the relocated intake brought in...

I caught up with NS's Pennsylvania Railroad "Heritage" unit this afternoon in Columbia, SC. I was thrilled to find it leading the train. The weather was overcast, but I can't complain.

Stopped by the South Carolina Railroad Museum (SCRM) yesterday and found EMD SW-8 2028 switching cars in the Rockton yard. I was told that this locomotive was built for the Army in May 1951 and sent to South Korea. At war's end, she was shipped back to the U.S. to Savannah, GA and was bought...

If I can catch a train moving in the other direction, this would be a much improved composition. Found this location on Sunday afternoon on a hike with my wife. This is the former Seaboard bridge over the Congaree River in Cayce, SC. The former Southern bridge is adjacent and it's active too...

Also found this cool lunar white signal today, calling forward a local freight running at a very slow restricted speed because the Star was stopped 8-1/2 Miles ahead. I'd not seen a lunar aspect in many years and wanted to capture it.

The northbound Silver Star ran nine hours late today and I was able to get a picture of it at Camden, SC. I'm glad that it all came together because the Star is a night train through here in both directions and I've never seen it at Camden. During all of my zooming around, I found a new photo...

Ho hum, a common NS freight appears soon thereafter, generating a much lower heart rate. This is Train P77, a local.

Well, I lucked out today. The S&A unit boomeranged back to Columbia and its train was late. Instead of the train's usual nighttime appearance, NS 1065 appeared in daylight and on the point! I think I'm liking this retirement thing. :D

NS's Savannah & Atlanta heritage unit passed through Columbia, SC today. I was fortunate to find it, as Train 337 usually arrives and departs in the wee hours. It was in trailing position and staying safe, I couldn't get real close, but I squeezed off a few shots. The last photo is 337...

Happened upon local NS Train P85 this afternoon at Killian SC. Being a northbound, I knew the light would be bad, but I couldn't resist tripping the shutter anyway. I tried to find a location where the sun wasn't in the lens.

Passed through Columbia, SC yesterday and things were pretty quiet. Despite the gray skies, clicked the shutter on a few locomotives taking a weekend break. The 3012 is a veteran GP-40-2 built for Conrail over 40 Years ago. The 9576 is a teenager. :)

Found these Florida East Coast playing cards in my mother's basement over Christmas. I remember seeing them as a kid. I'm uncertain of their age, but views with automobiles look to be from the 1930s. The diesel seen on two of the cards is the FEC's E-3, Henry M. Flagler leading the train of...

I'm not sure if I posted this photo before, but the appearance of the Lehigh Valley depot at Flemington Jct., NJ could be greatly enhanced with a few hours cleanup work with a chainsaw. In the summer, it's almost completely camouflaged. At least it still stands however and the adjoining...

Caught an eight hour late northbound Amtrak Silver Star yesterday at a rural grade crossing. This train normally passes through at night. I knew the train would be making up time, so chose a 1/1000 Sec. shutter speed. :)
