    Post your Train shots!

I suppose my slide scanner purchase was timely, in view of our state's "Stay At Home" directive. As a result of the Coronavirus, I can't go out to railfan, but can instead enjoy some old memories as I digitize my collection. This shot is a favorite, taken in Knoxville, TN in October 1978 in an...

    Post your Train shots!

In November of 1990, NS ran 1218 a Saturday and Sunday trip from Birmingham, AL to Columbus, GA and back. My wife and I chased it one day and rode it the next. When reading an old Trains Magazine from the '50s, I discovered a photo of a trestle at Goodwater, AL on the train's route, so my wife...

Tuscaloosa also hosted an ICG yard which was frozen in time and often without people. It made for some good, unhurried picture taking.

    Post your Train shots!

Just a handful of Kodachromes from the early '80s at Tuscaloosa, AL. All were shot with a Nikon EL-2 body. The first two are on the SOU mainline, with Amtrak's Crescent at the long-abandoned tower where the GM&O crossed. SOU then provided a fine looking freight.

Cheney Railroad's diminutive 44-Tonner sets out a boxcar for interchange near Pinson, AL in April 1990. Sadly, the rails have since been removed and the line is gone.

Norfolk Southern's 13th Street Tower in Birmingham, AL was still hooping up orders in the time-honored tradition in November 1985. The former SOU and L&N mainlines crossed here. The tower has since been razed.

    Post your Train shots!

From September 1990, an SOU GP-30 returns from Montgomery to Autauga Creek, AL. I somehow recall that I had to be in to work early this day, but thought to carry the Nikon along. Thankfully there was just enough morning light.

Returning to July 1981, we're at Hudson, OH with what looks like an empty iron ore train returning from Pittsburgh to the docks at Cleveland for another load. This line is former Pennsylvania Railroad. I miss seeing cabooses and the human side of railroading, such as seen at the Hudson depot...

    Post your Train shots!

Took a step back from the wayback machine yesterday and snagged a shot of NS Train 192 near Killian, SC. It was overcast, but the low light was actually welcome because I would have otherwise been shooting into the sun at this location. Those darn utility line markers drive me crazy. There...

A few more Kodachromes from the wayback machine in 1984. The first from Schneider, IN and the second from Terre Haute, IN. Sadly, the Terre Haute depot was razed soon after I took the picture.

From July 1984, a northbound commuter train clears the junction at Rondout, IL. The train is on the Milwaukee Road mainline and the other track is the Elgin, Joliet & Eastern's. This was, and remains a fast railroad. The yellow sign attached to the signal at the right grants freight trains 50...

From April 1980, looking out from an upper floor of the Santa Fe Railway's General Office in Chicago at the Illinois Central's lakefront mainline. That's Grant Park beyond and the Adler Planetarium at the upper right.

From December 1984 at Montgomery, AL, SCL SD-45 2020 (hey, that's this year!) is at the ready. Those cool-looking flared radiators at the rear made the SD-45 a fan favorite.

Re: Images from the Museum of the American Railroad, Frisco, TX October 1994 at Q Tower in Hardman, WV. This remote tower was closed in June of 1998 and demolished. My wife and I were invited upstairs by a friendly towerman who invited my wife to throw the "armstrong" levers and set up the...

That same weekend, I caught another Western Maryland SD-40 leading at Sand Patch. Hey, that's my name here! :)
