    A northbound Milwaukee Road freight crosses the C&NW at Des Plaines, IL in '75 or '76. Sigh -- F Units, cabooses and semaphore signals, all gone and even the Milwaukee Road itself.

    From about 1975, what I think is Train 599 is stopped and awaiting a commuter train to pass by at the end of triple track at Barrington, IL. 599 was a Chicago => Madison, WI manifest which was often heavy with tonnage for the big Chevy plant at Janesville, WI, now closed.

    As seen this afternoon in Cayce, SC, Norfolk Southern Train 191 has just departed Columbia and is on its way west to Macon, GA. The NS line in the foreground once ran 130 miles south to a point near Savannah, GA. Only a 20 Mile stub remains today.

    Stepped away from the Wayback Machine this morning and caught local train CSX F765 passing Columbia, SC's Amtrak station. Tropical Storm Zeta is bringing drizzle and the station canopy was a welcome spot.
