    Post your Train shots!

Wow, such a fine old railcar to capture, one that's approaching a century of service. Sperry knew a good thing when they found it. (y)

    Post your Train shots!

Yeah, CSX had taken a lot of heat for their amalgamation of old and new. I was careful to capture the side, as a frontal shot would look like a few thousand other units on the CSX system! :)

    Post your Train shots!

An early present on Christmas Eve, CSX's 1976 Conrail Heritage Unit at Columbia, SC. CSX is adding special paint to a series of locomotives to celebrate the heritage of the railroads merged into CSX. The locomotive numbers reflect the year the railroads were founded. This is the first Heritage...

    Post your Train shots!

A nice shot on what looks like a nice day. I've not been out much and what few shots I've taken are terrible. Not sure what the deal is, but the railroads insist on running trains without regard to composition and lighting. 😑

How to recover photos from SD card camera?

Some years ago, we had good success recovering photos from a defective SD card using RescuePRO. We paid for the software, but it was worth it. It looks like they now have a free trail. SanDisk Recovery Software

    Post your Train shots!

From 02/21/1987 at Melrose, NC. The train had just descended what was at the time, the steepest mainline railroad grade in the U.S., known as the Saluda Grade. The average climb was 4-1/4% over three miles, with one stretch nearing 5%. This is serious stuff in railroading. Sadly, Norfolk...

    Post Your Automotive Shots!

Thanks for the tire tip. I made a note of it for when the time comes. I see that yours is a well-rated UV filter. I use a UV filter on my lenses (all two of them) as well. Here's my GTI's October oil change. I added the underhood sound insulator. It's something that VW "decontented" along...

    Post your Train shots!

From about 1975 on a chilly day at Barrington, IL, a Chicago & North Western freight advances through the white stuff. One the many dumb things I did as a young photographer was to keep a yellow filter on my 50mm lens. I read in a magazine that it made skies look better, but it was a terrible...

    Post Your Automotive Shots!

Such a beautiful GTI. (y) Are the amber foglight lenses OE or aftermarket? They look great. I wish my tires looked as good as yours. At 20K Miles, my (original) OE tires are showing wear. I recently had to completely replace one in back that took a nail in the sidewall. Since my GTI has...

    Marilynne's Wetlands and Other Stuff - 2023

That's a neat picture. Not knowing much about birds, I looked that up to find that some birds have "goggles", an extra semi-transparent eyelid to protect their eyes. Interesting stuff! Thanks for capturing this. (y)

    Post your Train shots!

As found on Friday, "Spongebob Squarecab" Model SD-40-3 rebuild No. 4021, former CSX/L&N No. 8108 on Train L643 at Laurens, SC. CSX's Huntington, WV Shops have rebuilt a bunch of these from 40+ year old locomotives.

    Post your Train shots!

From 07/21/1989 during the National Railway Historical Society's National Meet in Asheville, NC, 2-8-2 Nickel Plate 587 works a fantrip through Hot Springs, NC. The car with the maroon stripe trailing the 587 is a "canteen" car of water for the locomotive. [Nikon N2020, Kodachrome]

    Post your Train shots!

From 03/11/1995 at Speers Ferry (aka Copper Creek), VA, a CSX coal train moves south with the moon taking in the view. A Norfolk Southern line can be seen below the viaduct. The area has since become treed in, making this view impossible. [Nikon N2020, Kodachrome]
