Went out today in search of trains and got some shots.

Blue Ridge Southern arrives in Asheville, NC as a special NS locomotive looks on:

Later in Biltmore, NC a one car freight with abundant horsepower arrives:

At Ridgecrest, NC, the train passes by and enters Swanannoa Tunnel. Unfortunately, I missed a train coming out of the tunnel earlier in the day. :(

Unfortunately I cant see photos

I'm not sure what's up with this. I posted six photos in three posts and inexplicably, the two photos in this post won't show. I actually deleted and reposted with the same result. I'll try a third time and see what happens ...

Take three. I opened and re-saved the two jpgs.

Helpers depart Biltmore, NC at Milepost 0 under a classic Southern Rwy. cantilever signal bridge.

Miles east minus helpers, the same train exits Burgin Tunnel and works downgrade at Ridgecrest, NC.

Thank you. I had to do my Usain Bolt imitation to get the Burgin Tunnel shot, arriving at the spot out of breath with the headlight already seen within the tunnel. It's not a quick park-and-shoot locale. A 30 minute walk further downgrade finds McElroy and Lick Log tunnels in rapid succession. NS 123 is an afternoon westbound and it'll be my quarry next time.

Thanks for your effort. I'd still be on my way to the tunnel if it was me. This is a very good tunnel shot, it proves you don't need a train to make a great railroad shot.:encouragement:

Man I hate graffiti, they should dunk the perpetrators in a vat of paint. :wink-new:

It's been crazy warm here in the Carolinas for early February, so I had to get outside and enjoy it. Got two shots of CSX F765, one in the countryside northeast of Columbia and another of the same train in Columbia passing the Amtrak station. I'd hoped to also capture the Columbia station sign under the canopy, but it's too dark to read it.

Great catches Sandpatch. I'm glad you are having good weather. Here on my patch of the planet it has been warm, but raining cats & dogs. Looks like I may get a decent day next week to get track side. Fingers crossed.

The weather finally cooperated & I spent most of the day hunting things with flanged wheels. I hit my usual haunts & hit pay dirt. At the CSX Willard Ohio yard sitting at the east end I found the Ashland Railway about to leave for Mansfield. With a nice old GP on the point to boot. This is the first time I've caught them close enough for a few pictures. In the past I've seen them far in the yard out of camera range.

Wow -- a high hood jeep in service! VERY cool and in a neat paint scheme too. I'd not heard of the Ashland Rwy. and see that it owns 56 miles of track. Glad that you found some sunshine and a rarity on rails.
