I don't have a good neutral-density filter for photographing the Sun. There are, however, some big fires burning somewhere near enough to me, in the last several days, to put a lot of smoke in the air, which, I discovered yesterday evening, managed to serve as a sufficient neutral-density filter to allow me to take these pictures. First time I've ever been able to take pictures of the Sun that are good enough to show sunspots.

Excerpt from SpaceWeather.com
SUNSPOT GENESIS: Two big sunspot groups are now facing Earth. Behemoth AR2674 has been growing for days, while newcomer AR2673 has suddenly quadrupled in size, with multiple dark cores breaching the surface of the sun in just the past 24 hours. The rapid development of these regions could herald Earth-directed flares in the days ahead. Visit Spaceweather.com for movies of sunspot genesis in action.
