High Dynamic Range. Adds more details in highlights and shadows. Uses multiple exposures at different exposures under/normal/over and combines them....

Umm.. Forgive me.. I'm in the learning stage here. What is the HDR effect? I don't see a difference between the two.

High Dynamic Range. The candle shots are not great examples of HDR. Some of my earlier shots show more effect.

HDR is the layering of multiple exposures, over and under, to capture greater range not possible with one single exposure.

Ah ha! I see, very interesting. Is this with software or on the actual camera settings? I don't think I have those options on my compact camera. If I do I don't think I've stumbled across it before.

The images are blended with software, I use photomatix. If your compact has manual mode you may be able to shoot the images needed for HDR. The D5100 actually came out with it built in, but unfortunately it only processes 2 images and you really want 3 as a minimum. This was a huge blunder on Nikons part (in my opinion).

Snow White
Now this one is much more appealing than the one in the other thread. The little bit of contrast from the shadows and the trees really add a lot. Beautiful work, Rick!
