Its been years since I've seen any newts. I remember having one of each of the British breeds in a bucket once as a kid. They all ran off mind



These live in my father in laws pond, not sure how they got there as it's quite an urban area. I used to work on Greenham Common in Berkshire, had a pond there that was teaming with all three species. This pic was taken when we did a newt survey (and before I took up photography). Incredible little creatures.

Went back to the same spot and came across this pair of toads mating. Don't think they were too happy about me taking their picture.

When i was a kid we used to follow the machine that cleaned the road drains out to rescue the Newts and toads,its a lot of years since i have seen a Newt but after seeing this i may visit a reserve that has Newts and Natter Jack toads on.
