Day 60

Spent the day watching YouTube videos on how to use Elements 11 and I am none the wiser and a hellavu lot more frustrated!
Don't have what I wanted so cropped this portrait of a street busker.

One day you may see the whole image - if I can ever remove the tree from growing out of the top of his head. The ugly plastic wrap around the microphone is for some purpose only he knows.

And I lost my watermark in the process!

Still a nice background though - the white triangle, grey and clouds.

I think its the devil, cloning away big objects. But you select it with lasso tool (maybe magnetic will work on this image) and keep the selection, while you clone from another place. Remove the selection and clone the lines that are probably there..

I forgot one step, but here is a quick how to..

I forgot to copy the layer FIRST THING so I could make the hat sharp on the edges..

Lasso tool (magnetic) to make my selection. Afterwards "refine edge" - I used smooth and feather

Small line you will have to zoom ind and clone, after removing the selection

Here you see why you should make a copy of the layer first, I would have deleted the slightly blurred effect on the edge of the hat, with layer mask.

Like that.. of course you can do better with the original file.

Of course I can't do that at all! Grrrr ….

The above image is a very cropped version of the overall full body image that I was working on.

I think I will just give up. Use what comes out of camera and be done.

Thanks for your help - most appreciated.

Why can't you do it? Of course it's always best if you see those things when framing the shot - now you learned that but, if moving, your image won't be the same..

Day 61

Spent the afternoon trying to understand Elements 11 again and i have created and mastered the "botch" tool.

No time and no mood for much photography as a result. So I ran outside and took a quick photo of a dried and wrinkled fern leaf.

Day 62

Looked out the window and saw two completely different skies.

The first is the horizon which had the sun trying to break through this monstrous black cloud. And way above that on the edge of the black cloud was this lovely blue sky. I tried doing it in one photo but the black was so large that it didn't show what I saw … if you know what I mean.

Taken within seconds of each other at about 90 minutes pre sunset

Day 63

Well I was running late with my photo today because I left cooking to the last minute.
I made a chicken and corn pie.
Recipe here.

However the news came on at the wrong time - although it has come on at the same time every night since Adam - and I took my eye off the oven.
This photo was the result of taking my eye off the oven and the TV wasn't so clear either during this little interlude.

Once the smoke disappeared the pie was delicious.

Day 64

Well I tried something different today.
The idea was to see if I could freeze a flipped coin but still show the movement.
Well after setting up the tripod and trying to do this in front of the camera with timer release and a flash I realised I was wasting my time.

A different plan was needed - although not as effective as a coin in the air. I don't have 8 hands, a barrage of cameras and the patience of Mother Theresa (although this would have tested even her I think)

So off to the dining table it was. Flick the coin to get it spinning, pick up the camera, focus (if possible) and shoot. Repeat until you get something half useful.

In full motion

Spin a Coin.jpg

Slowing down - will it be a head or a tail?

Heads or Tails.jpg

And what are the chances of freezing it so there is no motion?

Are you spinning.jpg

I bet there will be some of you who can't resist trying this ...

Now someone has to try the mid air stop.

I think it would be a great shot to pull off. And I also think a big coin would be best. I only had a one dollar New Zealand coin which is rather small.

Somebody will give it a go. My money is on Jake or Scott.

More for 64 - just for my own interest

These shots reminded me of an error I keep perpetuating. Note to self: I should use a much faster shutter speed to lower the ISO
I intend redoing them tomorrow to see if I am right.
